Background: Emphysematous esophagitis is a very rare disease and there are only a few previous reports in the literature. Previously reported cases have resulted in emphysematous esophagitis following anterior cervical procedures or ingestion of hydrogen peroxide (HP). In this report, we describe a case in which a patient with emphysematous esophagitis accompanied by gastritis without the above predisposing factors was treated with conservative treatment.

Mutations in the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) gene cause cystic fibrosis (CF), a multiorgan disease that is characterized by diverse metabolic defects. However, other than specific CFTR mutations, the factors that influence disease progression and severity remain poorly understood. Aberrant metabolite levels have been reported, but whether CFTR loss itself or secondary abnormalities (infection, inflammation, malnutrition, and various treatments) drive metabolic defects is uncertain.

Abdominal apoplexy was reported by Barber in 1909, and the occurrence rate of the apoplexy is known to be quite rare, but the mortality is high if untreated. We report an unusual case of abdominal apoplexy due to spontaneous rupture of gastric artery. A male patient in his fifth decade with recently diagnosed liver cirrhosis history arrived to the emergency department with severe abdominal pain, which led to abdominal computer tomography indicating spontaneous rupture of gastric artery.
