Effect of epinephrine administration interval on cerebral perfusion in a porcine cardiac arrest model.

Objectives: The recommended epinephrine administration interval during CPR is between 3 and 5 min. However, the optimal interval for improving cerebral perfusion remains controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of epinephrine administration interval of 3 min or 5 min on cerebral perfusion pressure (CEPP) and cortical cerebral blood flow (CCBF) in a porcine cardiac arrest model.

Conversion Therapy for Stage IV Gastric Cancer: Report From the Expert Consensus Meeting at KINGCA WEEK 2024.

Conversion therapy is a treatment strategy that shifts from palliative systemic therapy to curative surgical treatment for primary and/or metastatic stage IV gastric cancer (GC). To address its clinical statements, the Korean Gastric Cancer Association aims to present a consensus on conversion therapy among experts attending KINGCA WEEK 2024. The KINGCA Scientific Committee and Development Working Group for Korean Practice Guidelines prepared preformulated topics and 9 clinical statements for conversion therapy.

Korean Practice Guidelines for Gastric Cancer 2024: An Evidence-based, Multidisciplinary Approach (Update of 2022 Guideline).

Gastric cancer is one of the most common cancers in both Korea and worldwide. Since 2004, the Korean Practice Guidelines for Gastric Cancer have been regularly updated, with the 4th edition published in 2022. The 4th edition was the result of a collaborative work by an interdisciplinary team, including experts in gastric surgery, gastroenterology, endoscopy, medical oncology, abdominal radiology, pathology, nuclear medicine, radiation oncology, and guideline development methodology.

Total gastrectomy patients had a lower diet volume and greater diet frequency than distal gastrectomy patients after 6 months.

There are no reports comparing diet recovery between patients who underwent distal gastrectomy (DG) and those who underwent total gastrectomy (TG). We retrospectively collected clinical data from 263 consecutive patients who underwent gastrectomy for gastric cancer without recurrence at a single-center between January 2016 and December 2022.

SMARCD3 Overexpression Promotes Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition in Gastric Cancer.

This study investigates the role of SMARCD3 in gastric cancer by comparing its expression in signet ring cell (SRC) and well-differentiated (WD) groups within gastric cancer cell lines and tissues. We observed elevated SMARCD3 levels in the SRC group compared to the WD group. Functional analysis was conducted through both SMARCD3 knock-in and knock-out methods.

Effects of Transport to Trauma Centers on Survival Outcomes Among Severe Trauma Patients in Korea: Nationwide Age-Stratified Analysis.

Background: Previous studies showed that the prognosis for severe trauma patients is better after transport to trauma centers compared to non-trauma centers. However, the benefit from transport to trauma centers may differ according to age group. The aim of this study was to compare the effects of transport to trauma centers on survival outcomes in different age groups among severe trauma patients in Korea.

The Impact of the COVID-19 Outbreak on Emergency Medical Service: An Analysis of Patient Transportations and Time Intervals.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak on the Emergency Medical Service (EMS) system in South Korea. The study focused on the differences in EMS time intervals following the COVID-19 outbreak, particularly for patients with fever.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of EMS patient transportation data from 2017 to 2022 was conducted using the national EMS database.

Prognostic accuracy of initial and 24-h maximum SOFA scores of septic shock patients in the emergency department.

Background: We compared the prognostic accuracy of in-hospital mortality of the initial Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score at the time of sepsis recognition and resuscitation and the maximum SOFA score (SOFA) using the worst variables in the 24 h after the initial score measurement in emergency department (ED) patients with septic shock.

Methods: This was a retrospective observational study using a multicenter prospective registry of septic shock patients in the ED between October 2015 and December 2019. The primary outcome was in-hospital mortality.

Association between Case Volumes of Extracorporeal Life Support and Clinical Outcome in Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest.

Aim: Extracorporeal life support (ECLS) for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) is increasing. There is little evidence identifying the association between hospital ECLS case volumes and outcomes in different populations receiving ECLS or conventional cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The goal of this investigation was to identify the association between ECLS case volumes and clinical outcomes of OHCA patients.

This paper reports on a broadband transmission filter that employs the guided mode resonances pertaining to a terahertz metasurface composed of metallic gold disks with a quartz slab. Quality of chest compressions during prehospital resuscitation phase from scene arrival to ambulance transport in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

Aim: Prehospital cardiopulmonary resuscitation is performed from scene arrival to hospital arrival. The diverse prehospital resuscitation phases can affect the quality of chest compressions. Clinical effects of a new dispatcher-assisted basic life support training program in a metropolitan city.

This study estimates the effect of a new dispatcher-assisted basic life support training program on the survival outcomes of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Before-and-after intervention trials were conducted in Seoul. Patients who suffered OHCA in a private place from January 2014 to December 2017 were included.
