Effects of vinpocetine on atopic dermatitis after administration via three different routes in HR-1 hairless mice.

This study aimed to examine the effects of vinpocetine on atopic dermatitis (AD) by administering it via oral, intraperitoneal, and topical routes to HR-1 hairless mice. AD was induced in the mice for five weeks with ovalbumin, and vinpocetine was administered twice daily through each route of administration for two weeks after the induction of AD. Vinpocetine (20, 10, and 2 mg/kg) was administered by oral, intraperitoneal, and topical routes, respectively.

The effects of BRL-50481 on ovalbumin-induced asthmatic lung inflammation exacerbated by co-exposure to Asian sand dust in the murine model.

Asian sand dust (ASD), which mainly originates in China and Mongolia in the spring and blows into Korea, can exacerbate respiratory and immunological diseases. This study aims to observe effects of co-exposure to ASD on ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthmatic lung inflammation and of treatment with a phosphodiesterase 7 (PDE7) inhibitor in a mouse model. The challenge with OVA increased airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) and inflammatory cell infiltration into the lung tissue.

Hydration and Pasting Properties of Oat (Avena sativa) Flour.

Three oat cultivars and one oat breeding line were evaluated for chemical, hydration and pasting properties. Protein, starch and β-glucan levels ranged 11.13∼14.

[A case of early bile duct cancer arising from villous adenoma in choledochal cyst].

Choledochal cyst is an uncommon premalignant anomaly. The morphology and pathogenesis of the premalignant lesion of cholangiocarcinoma arising from the choledochal cyst has not been well described. Herein, we report a rare case of bile duct adenoma arising from choledochal cyst with anomalous union of pancreaticobiliary duct (AUPBD).

[A case of anti-LKM 1 positive autoimmune hepatitis accompanied by systemic lupus erythematosus].

Overlap of autoimmune hepatitis and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a comparatively rare condition. Although both autoimmune hepatitis and SLE can share common autoimmune features such as polyarthralgia, hypergammaglobulinemia and positive ANA, it has been considered as two different entities. We report a case of anti-LKM1 positive autoimmune hepatitis who developed SLE two years later.

[A case of Diphyllobothrium latum infection in a patient with abdominal pain].

The growing popularity of eating raw fish has resulted in increase of certain human parasitic infection, such as diphyllobothriasis. Even though, upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy reveal no specific abnormality, if a patient complains of persistent abdominal pain, we should consider the possibility of parasitic infection. Careful history taking and stool examination can avoid further invasive study.

[A case of sarcomatoid hepatocellular carcinoma in a young female without risk factor].

A previously healthy 22-year-old woman was admitted with a complaint of right upper quadrant abdominal pain for 2 weeks. Her past history was not remarkable. On admission, HBsAg and anti-HCV were negative and alpha-FP was within normal range.

Enhanced antioxidant enzymes are associated with reduced hydrogen peroxide in barley roots under saline stress.

Antioxidant enzymes are related to the resistance to various abiotic stresses including salinity. Barley is relatively tolerant to saline stress among crop plants, but little information is available on barley antioxidant enzymes under salinity stress. We investigated temporal and spatial responses of activities and isoform profiles of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), non-specific peroxidase (POX), and glutathione reductase (GR) to saline stress in barley seedlings treated with 200 mM NaCl for 0, 1, 2, 5 days, respectively.
