Signatures of self-organized dynamics in rapidly driven critical sandpiles.

We study two prototypical models of self-organized criticality, namely sandpile automata with deterministic (Bak-Tang-Wiesenfeld) and probabilistic (Manna model) dynamical rules, focusing on the nature of stress fluctuations induced by driving-adding grains during avalanche propagation, and dissipation through avalanches that hit the system boundary. Our analysis of stress evolution time series reveals robust cyclical trends modulated by collective fluctuations with dissipative avalanches. These modulated cycles attain higher harmonics, characterized by multifractal measures within a broad range of timescales.

Hysteresis-loop phenomena in disordered ferromagnets with demagnetizing field and finite temperature.

Using numerical simulations, we investigate the impact of the demagnetization field and finite temperature on the hysteresis phenomena in disordered ferromagnetics systems. We model the behavior of thin systems employing the thermal nonequilibrium random field Ising model driven by a finite-driving rate protocol to study the shape of the hysteresis loop and demagnetization line and the magnetization fluctuations for varied parameters. Our results reveal a significant interplay of the disorder, the demagnetizing fields, and thermal fluctuations.

Validity of the Health Personality Assessment among rectal cancer survivors in Serbia.

Understanding health personality traits in rectal cancer survivors could help to optimize recovery and coping mechanisms. The objective of this study was to evaluate psychometric properties of the Health Personality Assessment in Serbian language among rectal cancer survivors. A cross-sectional study was carried out from June to December 2022.

The Importance of Early Detection and Minimally Invasive Treatment of Pseudoaneurysms Due to Chronic Pancreatitis: Case Report.

The occurrence of the pseudoaneurysm of visceral arteries in the field of chronic pancreatitis is a very rare complication that represents a life-threatening condition. The higher frequency of this complication is in the necrotic form of pancreatic inflammation, especially in patients with formed peripancreatic necrotic collections. The degradation of the arterial wall leads to bleeding and transforms these necrotic collections into a pseudoaneurysm.

"Bezoar Egg"-A Rare Cause of Small Bowel Obstruction.

Small bowel obstruction is a frequent medical condition with various causes, the most common being postoperative adhesions, volvulus, intussusception, hernias, and tumors. A bezoar-induced blockage of the small intestine is a rare condition that accounts for approximately 4% of all small bowel obstruction cases. Herein, we present the case report of a 71-year-old patient with diffuse abdominal pain caused by a small bowel obstruction due to a calcified bezoar (bezoar egg) resulting from a post-radiation intestinal stricture.

Possibility of Using Conventional Computed Tomography Features and Histogram Texture Analysis Parameters as Imaging Biomarkers for Preoperative Prediction of High-Risk Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors of the Stomach.

Background: The objective of this study is to determine the morphological computed tomography features of the tumor and texture analysis parameters, which may be a useful diagnostic tool for the preoperative prediction of high-risk gastrointestinal stromal tumors (HR GISTs).

Methods: This is a prospective cohort study that was carried out in the period from 2019 to 2022. The study included 79 patients who underwent CT examination, texture analysis, surgical resection of a lesion that was suspicious for GIST as well as pathohistological and immunohistochemical analysis.

"The Red Flags" in Clinical Approach to Acute Ataxia-the Experience in Cohort of 76 Children.

The aim of our study is to define the most frequent etiology, clinical presentation, and predictive factors of outcome in children with acute ataxia (AA) and to determine "the red flags" in the diagnostic approach to children with AA. The retrospective study included the patients with AA treated in the institute from 2015 to 2021. The inclusion criteria were children aged 1-18 years, evolution time of ataxia within 72 h, and diagnosis made by a physician.

Effect of hidden geometry and higher-order interactions on the synchronization and hysteresis behavior of phase oscillators on 5-clique simplicial assemblies.

The hidden geometry of simplicial complexes can influence the collective dynamics of nodes in different ways depending on the simplex-based interactions of various orders and competition between local and global structural features. We study a system of phase oscillators attached to nodes of four-dimensional simplicial complexes and interacting via positive/negative edges-based pairwise K_{1} and triangle-based triple K_{2}≥0 couplings. Three prototypal simplicial complexes are grown by aggregation of 5-cliques, controlled by the chemical affinity parameter ν, resulting in sparse, mixed, and compact architecture, all of which have 1-hyperbolic graphs but different spectral dimensions.

Laparoscopic approach in the treatment of splenic angiolipomatous hamartoma: the first report of a case.

Angiolipomatous hamartoma is a benign mesenchymal proliferation of unknown aetiology. Only a few cases have been documented in the published literature. This current case report describes a 57-year-old female patient who was hospitalized for an assessment of a previously radiologically-verified splenic lesion and further treatment.

Diagnostic challenge and surgical management of multiple pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors - A case report.

Insulinoma is the most common functional solitary, benign pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor. In this paper, we share our experience of triple pancreatic insulinomas, with an idea to highlight the fact that despite the high frequency of solitary insulinoma, there is the possibility of multiple lesions and point out the need for a systematic and detailed radiographic and clinical examination. A 33-year-old woman was admitted to our clinic due to chronic fatigue, sweating, sporadic episodes of palpitations, unsteady hands, and blurred images, which resolve spontaneously after a few minutes.

Fatal gastrointestinal bleeding associated with acute pancreatitis as a complication of Covid-19: a case report.

Splenectomy for Visceral Leishmaniasis Out of an Endemic Region: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Visceral leishmaniasis (also known as kala-azar) is characterized by fever, weight loss, swelling of the spleen and liver, and pancytopenia. If it is not treated, the fatality rate in developing countries can be as high as 100% within 2 years. In a high risk situation for perioperative bleeding due to severe thrombocytopenia/coagulopathy, we present a rare challenge for urgent splenectomy in a patient with previously undiagnosed visceral leishmaniasis.

The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, in the 8th edition of the TNM classification, for the first time includes oligometastatic disease as a clinical state that describes the patients with distant metastasis, limited in number and organ sites, who may have more indolent biology.

Recent studies of dynamic properties in complex systems point out the profound impact of hidden geometry features known as simplicial complexes, which enable geometrically conditioned many-body interactions. Studies of collective behaviors on the controlled-structure complexes can reveal the subtle interplay of geometry and dynamics. Here we investigate the phase synchronization (Kuramoto) dynamics under the competing interactions embedded on 1-simplex (edges) and 2-simplex (triangles) faces of a homogeneous four-dimensional simplicial complex.

Successful Embolization of Posterior Inferior Pancreaticoduodenal Artery Pseudoaneurysm on the Grounds of Chronic Pancreatitis-Case Report and Literature Review.

Pancreatic pseudoaneurysm is a rare but life-threatening clinical entity. In this paper, we present a case of a 74-year-old man, who was admitted to our clinic with a diagnosis of an acute on chronic pancreatitis complicated by walled-off-pancreatic-necrosis, with subsequent development of peripancreatic pseudoaneurysm. After initial conservative management, the patient recovered and was discharged from the hospital.

Modeling latent infection transmissions through biosocial stochastic dynamics.

The events of the recent SARS-CoV-2 epidemics have shown the importance of social factors, especially given the large number of asymptomatic cases that effectively spread the virus, which can cause a medical emergency to very susceptible individuals. Besides, the SARS-CoV-2 virus survives for several hours on different surfaces, where a new host can contract it with a delay. These passive modes of infection transmission remain an unexplored area for traditional mean-field epidemic models.
