Background: Understanding the interplay of muscle activity in the upper face is crucial as it can significantly impact the effectiveness and safety of aesthetic treatments. Traditional injection algorithms typically focus on the general 2D and 3D anatomy of muscles, often neglecting the areas where muscles exert the greatest force during facial expressions.

Objectives: To analyze the location of greatest morphological change in upper facial muscles procerus muscle (PM), corrugator supercilia muscle (CSM), orbicularis oculi muscle (OOM) and frontalis muscle (FM) during various facial expressions.

Article Synopsis
  • The middle meningeal artery (MMA) is important for understanding and managing chronic subdural hematomas (cSDHs) due to its variable anatomy.
  • A study analyzed the MMA anatomy in 92 patients undergoing digital subtraction angiography, revealing that the most common MMA type was the IC configuration and the posterior branch generally originated from the distal segment.
  • The findings indicated that the MMA usually comes from the maxillary artery and that the Adachi classification type did not significantly affect treatment outcomes or fluoroscopy time.

Intracranial aneurysms (IAs) are a significant public health concern because they have the potential to cause deva-stating consequences, including death and disability. Despite advances in diagnostic and treatment modalities, the outcomes for patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid haemorrhage (aSAH) remain poor, with high rates of rebleeding, vasospasm, and cerebral ischaemia. IAs are a significant risk factor for aSAH, and it is estimated that up to 3% of the general population have IAs.

Introduction: Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage is a devastating type of stroke, associated with high mortality and morbidity. One of modifiable risk factors of aneurysm rupture is hypertension, however, it is still not clear whether any particular antihypertensive drugs play a significant role in the prevention of aneurysm rupture.

Objectives: We decided to investigate whether there is any association between acetylsalicylic acid, α-blockers, β‑blockers, angiotensin‑converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, calcium channel blockers, diuretics, statins, and anticoagulants and a risk of intracranial aneurysm rupture.

The altered cerebral energy metabolism central to schizophrenia can be linked to lactate accumulation. Lactic acid is produced by gastrointestinal bacteria, among others, and readily crosses the blood-brain barrier, leading to the brain acidity. This study aimed to examine the association of the oral microbiota with the effects of acid stress induced by an increase of brain lactate in schizophrenia patients.

Thyroid abnormalities, including mild forms of hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, are reported as risk factors for the development of a number of neuropsychiatric disorders, including schizophrenia. The diagnostic process still takes into account the extreme ranges of the accepted reference values for serum TSH since the concentration of free thyroxine in the serum does not change by definition. TSH mU/L cut-off values in psychiatric patients are currently clinically considered in the case of extremely high serum TSH levels (>4.

Despite extensive research, there is no convincing evidence of a reliable diagnostic biomarker for schizophrenia beyond clinical observation. Disorders of glutamatergic neurotransmission associated with N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor insufficiency, neuroinflammation, and redox dysregulation are the principal common mechanism linking changes in the periphery with the brain, ultimately contributing to the emergence of negative symptoms of schizophrenia that underlie differential diagnosis. The aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of these systems via peripheral and cerebral biochemical indices in relation to the patient's clinical condition.
