Visualization and understanding of the degradation behaviors of a PEFC Pt/C cathode electrocatalyst using a multi-analysis system combining time-resolved quick XAFS, three-dimensional XAFS-CT, and same-view nano-XAFS/STEM-EDS techniques.

We developed a multi-analysis system that can measure in situ time-resolved quick XAFS (QXAFS) and in situ three-dimensional XAFS-CT spatial imaging in the same area of a cathode electrocatalyst layer in a membrane-electrode assembly (MEA) of a polymer electrolyte fuel cell (PEFC) at the BL36XU beamline of SPring-8. The multi-analysis system also achieves ex situ two-dimensional nano-XAFS/STEM-EDS same-view measurements of a sliced MEA fabricated from a given place in the XAFS-CT imaged area at high spatial resolutions under a water-vapor saturated N atmosphere using a same-view SiN membrane cell. In this study, we applied the combination method of time-resolved QXAFS/3D XAFS-CT/2D nano-XAFS/STEM-EDS for the first time for the visualization analysis of the anode-gas exchange (AGEX) (simulation of the start-up/shut-down of PEFC vehicles) degradation process of a PEFC MEA Pt/C cathode.

In the present study, we evaluate the relationship between implant stability evaluation findings by the use of an implant stability quotient (ISQ), an index for primary stability, and a morphological evaluation of bone by preoperative computed tomography (CT).

It has been increasingly appreciated that the origin of collagen-overproducing cells such as pathological myofibroblasts in FF is pericytes. However, neither pericytes derived from the lung nor FF in the IPF lung have not been fully characterized.

Endoscopic Ultrasound-Guided Tissue Acquisition by 22-Gauge Franseen and Standard Needles for Solid Pancreatic Lesions.

Background/aims: Recently, a three-plane symmetric needle with Franseen geometry was developed for endoscopic ultrasound-guided fine needle biopsy (EUS-FNB). In this retrospective study, tissue acquisition per pass was compared between 22-gauge Franseen FNB and standard fine needle aspiration (FNA) needles in patients with solid pancreatic lesions.

Methods: Consecutive patients who underwent EUSFNA or EUS-FNB for solid pancreatic lesions between October 2014 and March 2018 were retrospectively studied.

Hepatectomy using a novel cart-based indocyanine green fluorescence imaging system.

Indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence has been used effectively in imaging for locating hepatic tumors and evaluating hepatic segmentation. We report our initial experience of performing hepatic resection using the novel cart-based ICG fluorescence device LIGHTVISION. This device has several promising features, including the fact that there is no need to switch off the room light, it has hands-free operability, and it can be located away from the workspace to facilitate a good field of vision.

It remains controversial whether circulating monocytes expressing CCR2 infiltrate the central nervous system (CNS) and contribute to pathogenicity of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). A previous report used conventional immunohistochemistry to show that CCR2 is exclusively expressed by astrocytes, but not infiltrating monocytes/microglia or neurons, in the spinal cords of ALS model mice. In this study, we assessed the cellular distribution of CCR2 in the CNS of ALS mice using CCR2-reporter mice (Ccr2-Cx3cr1-SOD1 Tg mice), a more sophisticated method for directly detecting the distribution of CCR2 protein.

Fatal Fulminant Legionnaires' Disease in a Patient on Maintenance Hemodialysis.

We herein report a case of fulminant Legionnaires' disease with autopsy findings in a patient on maintenance hemodialysis (HD). Chronic kidney disease is a strong risk factor for Legionnaires' disease, although there have been only a few reports in HD patients. Because most patients on HD are anuric, the use of rapid assay kits to detect antigens in urine samples for the diagnosis of Legionnaires' disease is not always feasible.

3D Imaging and Quantification of Inhomogeneous Electrochemical Reactions in Composite Battery Electrodes.

The performances of electrochemical systems such as solid-state batteries (SSBs) can be severely hindered by the three-dimensional (3D) and mesoscopically inhomogeneous electrochemical reactions that take place in the electrodes. However, the majority of existing methods for analyzing such inhomogeneous reactions are restricted to one- or two-dimensional observations. Herein, we performed 3D imaging of the mesoscopically inhomogeneous electrochemical reaction in a composite SSB electrode using hard X-ray computed-tomography with X-ray absorption near edge structure spectroscopy (CT-XANES).

Feed gas exchange (startup/shutdown) effects on Pt/C cathode electrocatalysis and surface Pt-oxide behavior in polymer electrolyte fuel cells as revealed using in situ real-time XAFS and high-resolution STEM measurements.

The synchronizing measurements of both cyclic voltammograms (CVs) and real-time quick XAFSs (QXAFSs) for Pt/C cathode electrocatalysts in a membrane electrode assembly (MEA) of polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs) treated by anode-gas exchange (AGEX) and cathode-gas exchange (CGEX) cycles (startup/shutdown conditions of FC vehicles) were performed for the first time to understand the opposite effects of the AGEX and CGEX treatments on the Pt/C performance and durability and also the contradiction between the electrochemical active surface area (ECSA) decrease and the performance increase by CGEX treatment. While the AGEX treatment decreased both the ECSA and performance of MEA Pt/C due to carbon corrosion, it was found that the CGEX treatment decreased the ECSA but increased the Pt/C performance significantly due to high-index (331) facet formation (high-resolution STEM) and hence the suppression of strongly bound Pt-oxide formation at cathode Pt nanoparticle surfaces. Transient QXAFS time-profile analysis for the MEA Pt/C also revealed a direct relationship between the electrochemical performance or durability and transient kinetics of the Pt/C cathode.

Tacrolimus Concentration after Letermovir Initiation in Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Recipients Receiving Voriconazole: A Retrospective, Observational Study.

Letermovir (LMV) is a new antiviral drug used to prevent cytomegalovirus infection in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) recipients. It has been reported to increase tacrolimus (TAC) exposure and decrease voriconazole (VRCZ) exposure in healthy participants. However, VRCZ inhibits the metabolism of TAC.

Posterior Tibial Tendinopathy and Osteopenia as Primary Symptoms of Celiac Disease: A Case Report.

This case report describes posterior tibial tendon (PTT) tendinopathy, valgus deformity with tenosynovitis, and osteopenia at the medial malleolus as the primary symptoms of a young patient with celiac disease (CD) without gastrointestinal symptoms. CD is an autoimmune condition that is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the small intestine triggered by ingestion of gluten in individuals with a particular genetic background. Without typical gastrointestinal symptoms, CD patients are often misdiagnosed or undiagnosed.

Lenvatinib-induced acute acalculous cholecystitis in a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma.

The patient was a 67-year-old man with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) due to chronic hepatitis B. Due to refractoriness to radiofrequency ablation and transcatheter arterial chemoembolization, lenvatinib, a new oral mutikinase inhibitor, was started with a daily dose of 12 mg. However, on day 6 the patient developed acute-onset, right upper quadrant pain associated with fever; laboratory tests revealed leukocytosis and liver dysfunction.

Although most EGFR-mutant lung adenocarcinomas initially respond to EGFR inhibitors, disease progression almost inevitably occurs. We previously reported that two EGFR-mutant lung adenocarcinoma cell lines, HCC827 and H1975, contain subpopulations of cells that display an epithelial-to-mesenchymal phenotype and can thrive independently of EGFR signaling. We report a case of combined treatment using Mohs' paste and neoadjuvant chemotherapy for locally advanced breast cancer. Mohs' paste decreased bleeding and exudate from the tumor and neoadjuvant chemotherapy combined with bevacizumab down-staged a large tumor to a volume that permitted mastectomy.
