Objectives: We reported a performance during an implementation of prenatal cell-free (cf) DNA screening using single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) approach in our accredited laboratory.

Methods: Prospective audit with prompt intervention was set for the processing of 2,502 samples from singleton pregnancy from August 2017 to July 2019. Risks of trisomy 21 (T21), T18, T13, monosomy X (XO), and other sex chromosome aneuploidies (SCAs) were clarified by a proprietary bioinformatics algorithm.

This study evaluated prenatal screening test performance and the prevalence of common aneuploidies at Siriraj Hospital, Thailand. We collected data from screening tests which are first-trimester test, quadruple test, and noninvasive prenatal tests (NIPT) between January 2016 and December 2020. Thirty percent (7,860/25,736) of pregnancies received prenatal screening tests for aneuploidies disorders, and 17.

Article Synopsis
  • Alpha thalassemia major (ATM) poses a high risk of perinatal loss without in utero transfusions (IUTs), prompting an international registry to assess the impact of IUTs on survival and neurodevelopmental outcomes.
  • Among 49 prenatally diagnosed patients, those who received IUTs had significantly better health outcomes, such as resolution of hydrops and shorter hospital stays, compared to those diagnosed postnatally.
  • Data suggested that the earlier the IUT started, the better the neurodevelopmental scores, highlighting the importance of IUTs in improving survival and normal development in ATM patients, and suggesting that prenatal counseling should include this option for expectant parents.

Background: A paucity of data exists about the current practice of fetal red blood cell (RBC) transfusion in the United States (US). This investigation describes intrauterine transfusion (IUT) RBC product selection and processing practices at different US institutions.

Methods: A transfusion medicine and maternal-fetal medicine (MFM) team designed a survey to interrogate and characterize RBCs utilized for IUT.

Objective: To explore the potential of circulating trophoblasts (TBs) as a non-invasive tool to assess placental health and predict obstetric complications.

Methods: We retrospectively reviewed maternal characteristics and pregnancy outcomes of 369 women who enrolled in our original cell-based NIPT (cbNIPT) study. The number of circulating TBs recovered from the maternal blood samples was recorded and expressed as fetal cell concentration (FCC).

Objective: To compare the maternal and perinatal outcomes between a group of pregnant women diagnosed with thalassemia traits and normal controls.

Study Design: A retrospective cohort study was conducted on singleton pregnant women affected and unaffected by thalassemia traits who attended an antenatal care clinic and delivered in Siriraj Hospital. Thalassemia status for all subjects was diagnosed by hemoglobin typing and/or DNA analysis.

Objective: To examine the effects of maternal body mass index (BMI) and gestational age (GA) on the number of single circulating trophoblasts (SCT).

Methods: Maternal blood was collected in 20 to 40 mL. All singleton pregnant women at any gestation were recruited.

Background: To review the performance of noninvasive prenatal screening (NIPS) using targeted single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) approach in mixed-risk Thai women.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of data for detection of trisomy 21 (T21), 18 (T18), 13 (T13), monosomy X (XO), other sex chromosome aneuploidies (SCA), and triploidy/vanishing twins (VT) from a single commercial laboratory.

Results: Mean (±SD) gestational age and maternal weight were 13.

The aim of this study was to compare changes in body weight in women using a combined oral contraceptive (COC) consisting of 30-μg ethinylestradiol (EE) and 2-mg chlormadinone acetate (CMA) or a COC consisting of 30-μg EE and 3-mg drospirenone (DRSP). This randomised double-blind controlled trial (ClinicalTrials.gov NCT01608698) was conducted at a university hospital-based clinic in Thailand between June 2012 and September 2015.

A 29-year-old nulliparous woman with a dichorionic diamniotic (DCDA) twin pregnancy was referred to our hospital at 16 weeks' gestation for prenatal diagnosis. She was diagnosed of Haemoglobin H Constant Spring (Hb H CS; --/αα) and her husband of alpha thalassemia-1 trait (--/αα). Detailed ultrasound showed that left twin had fetal anaemia and early signs of hydrops while the right one was normal.

Objective: To study the prevalence and associating factors of sexual dysfunction in Thai women using contraception with intrauterine device (IUD).

Material And Method: A cross-sectional study was conducted in IUD users at the Family Planning Unit, Siriraj Hospital. Data were recruited between October 2012 and June 2013.
