Background: In pancreatic cancer surgery, accurate identification and resection of intrapancreatic residual tumors are quite difficult. We have developed a novel open-typed PET system (called 'OpenPET'), which enables high-resolution PET-guided surgery in real time, and demonstrated that OpenPET-guided surgery with intraperitoneally administered 64Cu-labeled anti-epidermal growth factor receptor antibody cetuximab is useful to detect and resect primary pancreatic cancer. Here, we investigated applicability of OpenPET-guided surgery for unexpected residual intrapancreatic tumors and examined its survival benefit over conventional surgery.

Predicting pathogenic germline variants (PGVs) in breast cancer patients is important for selecting optimal therapeutics and implementing risk reduction strategies. However, PGV risk factors and the performance of prediction methods in the Japanese population remain unclear. We investigated clinicopathological risk factors using the Tyrer-Cuzick (TC) breast cancer risk evaluation tool to predict BRCA PGVs in unselected Japanese breast cancer patients (n = 1,995).

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to analyze non-linear pharmacokinetics of P-glycoprotein (P-gp) substrates in a cell based assay of a microfluidic device, which might be affected by hydrodynamic barrier (unstirred water layer, UWL).

Results: Apparent permeability (P) were obtained using non-P-gp substrates (propranolol, metoprolol, and atenolol) and P-gp substrates (quinidine and talinolol) in a commercially available microfluidic device, organoplate ® of Caco-2 cell based assay. The previous UWL resistance model was well fitted to P of static and flow condition by assuming UWL including and negligible condition, while P-gp substrates of higher passive permeability (quinidine) was apart from the fitting curve.

Cardiogenic shock with electrical storm is a challenging condition to manage in patients with acute myocardial infarction despite primary percutaneous coronary interventions. While active mechanical circulatory support devices may improve hemodynamics in this situation, identifying the appropriate arterial access for device deployment is difficult in patients with severe peripheral arterial disease due to severe stenosis or obstruction and tortuous path of the femoral-iliac artery or descending aorta; additionally, this also reduces the mechanical viability of the implanted circulatory support devices, thus posing a risk for limb ischemia. Herein, we report on the effectiveness of the IMPELLA 5.

Introduction: Theoretically, the separate estimation of clearance (CL) and bioavailability (F) requires both intravenous and extravascular injection data. This study investigated whether CL and subcutaneous F of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) in humans can be separately estimated from subcutaneous injection data only.

Methods: First, the geometric mean of linear pharmacokinetic parameters (CL, intercompartmental CL [Q], volume of distribution in the central compartment [V], and volume of distribution in the peripheral compartment [V]) after intravenous injection for mAbs in humans that have been reported in public data sources was estimated from 103 mAbs with linear pharmacokinetics and 44 mAbs with nonlinear pharmacokinetics.

Glycation is a non-enzymatic reaction inducing the bonding of glucose to amino acids and proteins. Glycated amino acids are not useful for protein synthesis, suggesting that glycation reduces the utilization of amino acids. Metformin (MF) is well known as a therapeutic drug for type II diabetes that inhibits glycation.

The ductus arteriosus (DA) immediately starts closing after birth. This dynamic process involves DA-specific properties, including highly differentiated smooth muscle, sparse elastic fibers, and intimal thickening (IT). Although several studies have demonstrated DA-specific gene expressions using animal tissues and human fetuses, the transcriptional profiles of the closing DA and the patent DA remain largely unknown.

Flagellin (Flg) is a globular protein, found in bacterial flagella, that serves as a pathogen-associated molecular pattern and also serves as a toll-like receptor-5 (TLR5) ligand in vertebrates. Most ligands for TLRs are involved in non-specific effects such as anorexia and hypoactivity in an animal infected by bacteria. However, there is little knowledge on the effects of Flg in birds.

In recent years, external stenting has been used as a reliable method to relieve airway compression of the trachea and main bronchi in young children with acceptable age-proportional airway growth. However, to our knowledge, little literature supporting this approach for the distal airway has been published. A 1-year-old girl with absent pulmonary valve syndrome who had recurrent respiratory infections was diagnosed with bronchomalacia.

Background: Correction of coronal plane deformity by osteotomies around the knee is theoretically three-dimensional (3D) and can be associated with changes in other planes. It has been shown that 3D rotational changes are induced by biplanar high tibial osteotomy; however, relevant information in biplanar lateral closed-wedge distal femoral osteotomy (LCW-DFO) has not been reported in literatures. This study aimed to investigate rotational changes in axial and sagittal planes in LCW-DFO using computer-aided design (CAD) simulations.
