Intensification of antiretroviral therapy through addition of enfuvirtide in naive HIV-1-infected patients with severe immunosuppression does not improve immunological response: results of a randomized multicenter trial (ANRS 130 Apollo).

We studied whether addition of enfuvirtide (ENF) to a background combination antiretroviral therapy (cART) would improve the CD4 cell count response at week 24 in naive patients with advanced HIV disease. ANRS 130 Apollo is a randomized study, conducted in naive HIV-1-infected patients, either asymptomatic with CD4 counts of <100/mm(3) or stage B/C disease with CD4 counts of <200/mm(3). Patients received tenofovir-emtricitabine with lopinavir-ritonavir (LPV/r) or efavirenz and were randomized to receive ENF for 24 weeks (ENF arm) or not (control arm).

About the necessity to manage events coded with MedDRA prior to statistical analysis: proposal of a strategy with application to a randomized clinical trial, ANRS 099 ALIZE.

Background: Since 2003, the Medical Dictionary for Regulatory Activities (MedDRA) is the regulatory standard for safety report in clinical trials in the European Community. Yet, we found no published example of a practical experience for a scientifically oriented statistical analysis of events coded with MedDRA. We took advantage of a randomized trial in HIV-infected patients with MedDRA-coded events to explain the difficulties encountered during the events analysis and the strategy developed to report events consistently with trial-specific objectives.

Hodgkin's disease variant of Richter's syndrome: complete remission of the both malignancies after 14 years.

Richter's syndrome is defined by the occurrence of high-grade malignant lymphoma in the course of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). The prognosis is poor with a life expectancy of a few months. We report on the case of a 68-year old male who developed Hodgkin's disease 6 years after the diagnosis of stage A CLL was made.

Stage I-IIE primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the testis: results of a prospective trial by the GOELAMS Study Group.

Sixteen patients with aggressive primary testicular involvement were analyzed separately from a prospective multicenter series of 494 patients with stage I/II aggressive nonlymphoblastic lymphoma. The treatment strategy included 3 cycles of anthracycline-based chemotherapy followed by regional radiation therapy on inguinal, iliac, and para-aortic lymph nodes and central nervous system (CNS) prophylaxis by intrathecal chemotherapy and brain irradiation. Chemotherapy was stratified by age group.

Neurosarcoidosis Associated with Hodgkin's Disease; Malignancy.

Autoimmune cytopenias associated with malignancies and successfully treated with intravenous immune globulins: about two cases.

The authors report on the cases of two adult male patients presenting with autoimmune cytopenias associated with malignancies: a case of autoimmune haemolytic anemia occurring after remission of Hodgkin's disease and a case of autoimmune neutropenia in the setting of renal carcinoma. High-dose intravenous immune globulins (IIG) administered after failure of corticosteroid therapy produced a rapid and long-lasting response. These cases illustrate that intravenous immunoglobulins may be helpful in refractory cases of autoimmune cytopenias.

Opportunistic infection with Rhodotorula in cancer patients treated by chemotherapy: two case reports.
