Purpose: Chronic pain is common among people with spinal cord injury (PwSCI) and impacts mental health (MH). Mindfulness may buffer the association of pain with MH, but few studies have examined this among PwSCI. This study examines the extent to which mindfulness moderates the association of pain intensity with MH among PwSCI.

Mutant PP2A Induces IGFBP2 Secretion to Promote Development of High-Grade Uterine Cancer.

Uterine serous carcinoma (USC) and uterine carcinosarcoma (UCS) tumors are uniquely aggressive, suggesting that the primary tumor is intrinsically equipped to disseminate and metastasize. Previous work identified mutational hotspots within PPP2R1A, which encodes the Aα scaffolding subunit of protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A), a heterotrimeric serine/threonine phosphatase. Two recurrent heterozygous PPP2R1A mutations, P179R and S256F, occur exclusively within high-grade subtypes of uterine cancer and can drive tumorigenesis and metastasis.

Interprofessional health care students' confidence toward addressing the social determinants of health for older adults through telehealth.

There has been a call to action to integrate the Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) into health care education including interprofessional education. This brief describes a large-scale online interprofessional educational curriculum where students focus on SDoH of older adults through patient-centered, collaborative telehealth experiences. The curriculum was delivered to students ( = 417) from 17 programs within the Colleges of Health Sciences, Medicine, and Nursing at a large Midwestern academic medical center.

DNA methyltransferase 3A (DNMT3A) plays a critical role in establishing and maintaining DNA methylation patterns in vertebrates. Here we structurally and biochemically explore the interaction of DNMT3A1 with diverse modified nucleosomes indicative of different chromatin environments. A cryo-EM structure of the full-length DNMT3A1-DNMT3L complex with a H2AK119ub nucleosome reveals that the DNMT3A1 ubiquitin-dependent recruitment (UDR) motif interacts specifically with H2AK119ub and makes extensive contacts with the core nucleosome histone surface.

Mechanistic Interrogation of Photochemical Nickel-Catalyzed Tetrahydrofuran Arylation Leveraging Enantioinduction Data.

This manuscript details the development of an asymmetric variant for the Ni-photoredox α-arylation of tetrahydrofuran (THF), which was originally reported in a racemic fashion by Doyle and Molander. Leveraging the enantioselectivity data that we obtained, a complex mechanistic scenario different from those originally proposed is uncovered. Specifically, an unexpected dependence of the product enantiomeric ratio was observed on both the halide identity (aryl chloride vs bromide substrates) and the Ni source.

Less-Lethal Weapons and Civilian Injury in Police Use of Force Encounters: A Multi-agency Analysis.

Police use-of-force is a growing public health concern, with recent estimates suggesting that over 70,000 people are injured by police each year. To reduce the risk of injury to civilians, most police agencies authorize the use of various less-lethal weapons. However, to date, there is little consensus as to which types of less-lethal weapons are most effective at reducing injury risk.

Spontaneous Epidural Hematomas in a Patient With Sickle Cell Anemia: A Case Report.

Sickle cell disease (SCD) is a systemic organ disease with acute and chronic complications. Neurological complications of SCD include cerebral ischemia, moyamoya syndrome, posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome, cerebral fat embolism, and cerebral venous sinus thrombosis. Although less frequent, rare hemorrhagic manifestations, such as spontaneous epidural hematoma (EDH), can occur and are associated with increased mortality and morbidity.

Air DNA forensics: Novel air collection method investigations for human DNA identification.

Modern techniques can generate highly discriminatory DNA profiles from minuscule biological samples, providing valuable information in criminal investigations and court proceedings. However, trace and touch DNA samples, due to their nature, often have lower success rates than other biological materials, such as blood. Further, forensically aware criminals can utilize gloves and meticulously clean the crime scene to remove DNA traces of themselves from contacted surfaces.

Ethical considerations related to virtual visiting for families and critically ill patients in intensive care: a qualitative descriptive study.

Background: During the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual visiting technologies were rapidly integrated into the care offered by intensive care units (ICUs) in the UK and across the globe. Today, these technologies offer a necessary adjunct to in-person visits for those with ICU access limited by geography, work/caregiving commitments, or frailty. However, few empirical studies explore the ethical issues associated with virtual visiting.

Methods: We searched MEDLINE for all Cochrane reviews and for systematic reviews published since April 2015. RCTs were eligible if they included patients with IA receiving b/tsDMARD, compared with any comparator arm.

PU.1 eviction at lymphocyte-specific chromatin domains mediates glucocorticoid response in acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

The epigenetic landscape plays a critical role in cancer progression, yet its therapeutic potential remains underexplored. Glucocorticoids are essential components of treatments for lymphoid cancers, but resistance, driven in part by epigenetic changes at glucocorticoid-response elements, poses a major challenge to effective therapies. Here we show that glucocorticoid treatment induces distinct patterns of chromosomal organization in glucocorticoid-sensitive and resistant acute lymphoblastic leukemia xenograft models.

Thus motivated, we formulate and analyze susceptible-infectious-susceptible (SIS) epidemic models over temporal networks with periodic schedules. More specifically, we assume that the temporal network consists of a cycle of alternately used static networks, each with a given duration.

Objective: Beliefs and perceptions about pain intervention effectiveness when initiating a therapy may influence long-term engagement. This study examines how early perceived effectiveness of complementary and integrative health therapies impacts long-term engagement in a pragmatic trial context.

Participants: Veterans with chronic musculoskeletal pain participating in a pragmatic trial of provider-delivered complementary and integrative health therapies (acupuncture, chiropractic care, or massage therapy) used alone compared to combining those therapies with self-care therapies (yoga, Tai Chi/Qigong, or meditation).
