Despite the adsorption of microplastics (MPs), the precise quantification of their concentrating effect on persistent organic pollutants (POPs) remains uncertain. Therefore, in this study, POPs in MPs, POPs in suspended particulate matter (SPM), and dissolved POPs in seawater were distinguished to quantify the enrichment factor (EF) for characterizing the concentrating effects of MPs and SPM on POPs. The results showed that the logarithm of EF (log EF) for POPs in MPs was 5.

This study focuses on the implementation plan for an environmentally friendly fleet within the proposed solutions. The study aims to analyze perspectives and perceptions regarding the role of the environmental fleet in marine waste recovery and subsequent disposal issues through semi-structured interviews with stakeholders.

The abundance and fate of microplastics (MPs) in wastewater treatment plants (WTPs) has been reported extensively. However, in the wastewater, the extent to which hazardous chemicals such as persistent organic pollutants (POPs) accumulated by MPs not been clearly explored. In this study, MPs was sampled from influents and effluents in WTPs to characterize POPs in sorption within MPs.

It adopts a cross-disciplinary approach and encourages collaboration between the public and private sectors to implement actions aimed at raising social awareness and reducing ocean pollution.

Results indicated that the total concentrations of PAHs ranged between 58 and 16,436 μg/kg dw. Among the 17 samples, the 2-4 ring of total PAHs were the predominant compound in three kinds of treatment plant (> 60%).

The concentrations of PCDD/Fs on the surface (C) of MP pellets from the six sampling sites were from 1.9 to 14.

The bond path for the weak η1-H(17)-C(17)Hg agostic interactions between the Hg center and H(17) in complexes 4-9 was a through-space interaction from Hg to agostic carbon [C(17)] followed by a through-bond interaction from C(17) to an agostic proton [H(17)]. The magnitude of J[Hg-H(17)] [or the agostic upfield shift Δδago of the C(17)] for these complexes increases as the halide ligand varies from iodide to chloride, ranging from 33.

In this study, the method was applied within a large tropical port expected to have a high species diversity. The port of Kaohsiung was sampled for bivalve molluscan species that attach using a byssus.

It is categorized as critically endangered in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Thus, immediate measures of conservation should be taken to protect it from extinction.

Currently there is no integrated analysis for coastal eutrophication in Taiwan. A comprehensive analysis of the coastal eutrophic status was performed in this study based on decade-long coastal water quality monitoring data from Taiwan's Environmental Protection Administration.

While it is known that the problem of marine litter may be affected by waste management practices on land, beach survey results have seldom been compared with them. In this study, marine litter surveys on four beaches of Cijin Island were conducted to explore the effects of waste management and policy implications.

To interpret the large quantities of high-frequency data generated by this system, information theory was applied for data analysis and extraction of useful information for further coastal water-quality management. Information theory is a branch of applied mathematics that involves the quantification of information.

Results show that 67% of the arriving vessels were registered to a flag of convenience, which typically have a lower degree of environmental records. The top five donor countries historically suffer from harmful algal bloom problems.

Cationic polymers prepared from partially neutralized ferric chloride solutions were investigated using photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS) techniques. To study the speciation and yield of the polymers, FeCl(3) solutions were hydrolyzed by adding NaHCO(3) solution for a range of hydrolysis ratios (B=[OH]/Fe(T)) of 0 to 2.0 under different base addition rates.
