In this series, peptides P1, P4, and P5 showed very promising anti-quorum sensing activity on lasB-gfp reporter strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa without affecting bacterial growth.

Functionalization of pristine graphene to achieve high water dispersibility remains as a key obstacle owing to the high hydrophobicity and absence of reactive functional groups on the graphene surface. Herein, a green and simple modification approach to prepare highly dispersible functionalized graphene via thermal thiol-ene click reaction was successfully demonstrated on pristine graphene. Specific chemical functionalities (-COO, -NH and -S) on the thiol precursor (L-cysteine ethyl ester) were clicked directly on the sp carbon of graphene framework with grafting density of 1 unit L-cysteine per 113 carbon atoms on graphene.

Two series of novel 4-oxoquinazoline-based -hydroxypropenamides (- and -) were designed, synthesized, and evaluated for their inhibitory and cytotoxicity activities against histone deacetylase (HDAC). The compounds showed good to potent HDAC inhibitory activity and cytotoxicity against three human cancer cell lines (SW620, colon; PC-3, prostate; NCI-H23, lung cancer). In this series, compounds with the -hydroxypropenamide functionality impeded at position 7 on the 4-oxoquinazoline skeleton (-) were generally more potent than compounds with the -hydroxypropenamide moiety at position 6 (-).

The current study sought to determine the incidence of postoperative adverse events (AEs) based on data from the 2006 Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD). This retrospective case-control study included patients who experienced postoperative AEs in 387 hospitals throughout Taiwan in 2006. The independent variable was the presence or absence of 10 possible postoperative AEs, as identified by patient safety indicators (PSIs).
