We describe a woman with stiff-person syndrome (SPS), whose muscle spasms resulted in sequential bilateral femoral neck fractures. Orthopaedic fixation of the first fracture was complicated by increased muscle spasm, fracture nonunion and ultimately metalwork fracture. SPS was diagnosed following the fracture of the contralateral femoral neck, neurology assessment and detection of high-titre antibodies to glutamic acid decarboxylase.

We previously demonstrated that the transcriptional repressor Forkhead box P1 (FoxP1) is upregulated in the skeletal muscle of cachectic mice and people with cancer, and when overexpressed in skeletal muscle, it is sufficient to induce pathological features characteristic of cachexia. However, the role of myofiber-derived FoxP1 in both normal muscle physiology and cancer-induced muscle wasting remains largely unexplored.

Young gay and bisexual men and other men who have sex with men (GBMSM) in Kenya experience pervasive intersectional stigma and discrimination, contributing to elevated levels of negative mental health symptoms. Grounded in the Minority Stress Model, this paper explores associations of proximal and distal minority stressors with three types of negative mental health outcomes among young HIV-negative GBMSM (n = 63) between the ages of 19-34 who participated in a pilot trial of a sexual health intervention. We identified a novel mouse plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) lineage derived from the common lymphoid progenitors (CLPs) that is dependent on expression of . These CLP-derived pDCs, which we refer to as 'B-pDCs', have a unique gene expression profile that includes hallmark B cell genes, normally not expressed in conventional pDCs. Despite expressing most classical pDC markers such as SIGLEC-H and PDCA1, B-pDCs lack IFN-α secretion, exhibiting a distinct inflammatory profile.

Lesbian, bisexual, queer, trans and other gender diverse persons assigned female at birth (heretofore referred to as "LBQT+ persons") in Western Kenya experience intersectional oppression and stigma. This stigma can manifest in acts of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and sexual and gender minority (SGM)-based violence, as well as various forms of discrimination-all of which have been linked to disproportionately higher levels of negative health outcomes for this group. Despite these challenges, many LBQT+ persons have been able to gain personal and collective power and thrive in this oppressive environment.

It has been more than three decades since the discovery of multifunctional factors, the Non-POU-Domain-Containing Octamer-Binding Protein, NonO, and the Splicing Factor Proline- and Glutamine-Rich, SFPQ. Intestinal hyperpermeability and subsequent immune activation alters nutrient partitioning and thus, decreases productivity. Developing experimental models of intestinal barrier dysfunction in heathy cows is a prerequisite in identifying nutritional strategies to mitigate it. Six cannulated Holstein cows (mean ± standard deviation, 37 ± 10 kg/d milk yield; 219 ± 97 d in milk; 691 ± 70 kg body weight) were used in a replicated 3 × 3 Latin square design experiment with 21-d periods (16-d wash-out and 5-d challenge) to evaluate either feed restriction or hindgut acidosis as potential models for inducing intestinal hyperpermeability.

This paper reports findings of a qualitative study examining the perceptions of 21 Australian women professionals who conduct home visiting with families experiencing intimate partner violence. There is scant evidence documenting how home visiting professionals adapted practice to address the safety concerns of women and their children within the context of the pandemic. Practitioners noted an increase in the risk level and complexity of intimate partner violence (IPV), including the ways that perpetrators weaponized the pandemic to exert power and control over women and children.
