Administration of laferon to patients stimulates the blood serum interferon formation, with its peak being reached by 24 h. The evaluation done confirmed the therapeutic efficacy of laferon in meningoencephalites. This was manifested by reduction in duration of certain clinical symptoms, timeterms of spinal fluid sanitation, improvement in immunity parameters and increase in the patients' blood serum level of interferon.

There have been under observation 63 patients with meningoencephalitis at the age of 15-52 years whose complex treatment included reaferon and 42 patients with the same disease who were not given the drug. Reaferon was noted to be effective in meningoencephalitis. It shortened the period of clinical manifestation of the disease, hastened sanation of the liquor, influenced beneficially interferon production and modulated activity of the natural killers.

An analysis is presented of CT examination of the brain in viral meningoencephalitis in 113 patients with viral encephalitis. Pathological changes in the acute period were found in 65.4% of patients more frequently in the CSF system, rarer in the brain tissue (in herpetic encephalitis).

Results are reported of a study of 46 patients with systemic diseases: connective tissue, inflammatory granulomatous processes, lymphoid tissue lesions and blood diseases treated in the clinic of infections diseases. Difficulties and errors in their clinical diagnosis, and their causes are shown. It is emphasized that these patients are hospitalized in infections clinics and that the incidence of systemic diseases rises in conditions of radiation environment.

Data are reported of 582 case records of patients with acute pneumonia of different influenza epidemic periods, results of a study of 175 lethal cases due to acute pneumonia, that complicated influenza in adults as well as experimental studies on reproduction of para-influenzal-staphylococcal, influenzal-Klebsiella and Proteus-influenzal infections. The study allowed to find out the causes of diagnostic difficulties, to establish the features of the course of acute pneumonia in patients with respiratory viral diseases to disclose the mechanisms of development of lung changes and make propositions facilitating early clinical diagnosis on the prehospital period.

High-active interferon was used in the complex treatment of 49 patients with nervous system diseases of viral-bacterial etiology. A control group of 28 similar patients were also analyzed. A positive clinical effect was observed in early use of interferon.

Data are reported of the results of clinical trials of the therapeutic efficacy of longaceph--a drug of the new generation of cephalosporins with a long period of half-decay--in acute pneumonia complicating influenza in 42 patients. The sensitivity of 120 microbial strains to longaceph was also studied. It was established that cephalosporin possesses a high efficacy in diseases caused by gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms.

The results obtained in the experimental and clinical study of the preparations of mephenamine acid and levamisole with respect to their interferonogenic and interferon-stimulating action and their therapeutic effectiveness in influenza and virus hepatitis are presented. The study has revealed that mephenamine acid, along with its capacity for stimulating the processes of interferon formation in the body, produces a pronounced curative effect, prevents the development of postinfluenza complications much more effectively than levamisole and remantadin and accelerates the processes of reparation in virus hepatitis.
