Non-invasive diagnostic modalities are integral to cardiovascular care; however, current systems primarily measure peripheral pressure, limiting the breadth of cardiovascular prognostication. We report a novel approach for extracting left side heart sounds using a brachial cuff device. The technique leverages brachial cuff device enhanced signal resolution to capture pressure fluctuations generated by cardiohemic system vibrations, the sound pressure waveform.

Case Summary: A 12-year-old castrated male domestic shorthair cat was referred for investigation of lethargy, hindlimb weakness with plantigrade stance and ventroflexion of the neck. The cat was fed a balanced diet and had received methylprednisolone acetate at a dose of 20 mg intramuscularly every 6 months for 6 years. On blood work, severe hypokalaemia and marked elevation of muscle enzymes were noticeable.

In Argentina, hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) caused by Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC-HUS) infection is endemic, and reliable data about prevalence and risk factors have been available since 2000. However, information about STEC-associated bloody diarrhea (BD) is limited. A prospective study was performed during the period October 2018-June 2019 in seven tertiary-hospitals and 18 referral units from different regions, aiming to determine (i) the frequency of STEC-positive BD cases in 714 children aged 1-9 years of age and (ii) the rate of progression of bloody diarrhea to HUS.

A 9-year-old domestic cat, positive for antibodies to feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV), was brought to a veterinary clinic with alopecia, ulcerative skin lesions, and upper respiratory tract (URT) signs. This was after being treated for suspected allergic dermatitis, without clinical improvement, for 2 y. Only 4 months after the beginning of SARS-CoV-2 epidemic, the world is facing a global pandemic due to a complex and insidious virus that today constantly poses new challenges. Case Summary: A 9-month-old entire male domestic longhair indoor cat presented with a 3-week history of fluctuating fever, weight loss and small intestine diarrhoea, which was unresponsive to antibiotics and supportive treatment. Abdominal ultrasound revealed severe jejunal and ileocolic junction intestinal wall thickening with loss of layering. An enterectomy was performed and histopathology revealed severe pyogranulomatous enteritis with vasculitits, compatible with the diagnosis of feline infectious peritonitis (FIP).

Sixteen daily fractions of radiation therapy were delivered followed, approximately 1 year later, by administration of pasireotide. Case Summary: An 8-year-old female spayed Siamese indoor cat presented with a 3 week history of inspiratory dyspnoea, stridor and open-mouth breathing after exercise. Laryngoscopy, tracheoscopy, bronchoscopy and retroflexed nasopharyngoscopy were performed, and identified a multilobulated intraluminal mass within the trachea. Brush cytology was performed on the mass but was inconclusive in providing a definitive diagnosis.
