We have demonstrated in human cadavers and canines that nerve transfer to bladder vesical nerve branches is technically feasible for bladder reinnervation after nerve injury. We further clarify here that sacral (S) ventral rami contribute to these vesical branches in 36 pelvic sides (in 22 human cadavers). Gross post-mortem visualization and open anterior abdominal approaches were used, as was micro-CT of sacral nerve bundles, for further confirmation when needed.

Overuse injury is a frequent diagnosis in occupational medicine and athletics. Using an established model of upper extremity overuse, we sought to characterize changes occurring in the forepaws and forelimbs of mature female rats (14-18 months of age). Thirty-three rats underwent a 4-week shaping period, before performing a high-repetition low-force (HRLF) task for 12 weeks, with the results being compared to 32 mature controls.

This study investigates the factors of personal immersion while using entertainment and digital communication applications and other variables such as problematic internet usage, and Facebook addiction. Copper-containing membrane monooxygenases (CuMMOs) are encoded by xmoCAB(D) gene clusters and catalyze the oxidation of methane, ammonia, or some short-chain alkanes and alkenes. In a metagenome constructed from an oilsands tailings pond we detected an xmoCABD gene cluster with <59% derived protein sequence identity to genes from known bacteria. Stable isotope probing experiments combined with a specific xmoA qPCR assay demonstrated that the bacteria possessing these genes were incapable of methane assimilation, but did grow on ethane and propane.

Aralkyl and aryl selenoglycosides as well as glycosyl selenocarboxylate derivatives were assayed on the activity of protein phosphatase-1 (PP1) and -2A (PP2A) catalytic subunits (PP1c and PP2Ac) in search of compounds for PP1c and PP2Ac effectors. The majority of tested selenoglycosides activated both PP1c and PP2Ac by ∼2-4-fold in a phosphatase assay with phosphorylated myosin light chain substrate when the hydroxyl groups of the glycosyl moiety were acetylated, but they were without any effects in the non-acetylated forms. A peptide from the myosin phosphatase target subunit-1 (MYPT1) that included an RVxF PP1c-binding motif attenuated activation of PP1c by 2-Trifluoromethylbenzyl 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-1-seleno-β-d-glucopyranoside (TFM-BASG) and 4-Bromobenzyl 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-1-seleno-β-d-glucopyranoside (Br-BASG).

Most of the lineages of bacteria have remained unknown beyond environmental surveys using molecular markers. Until the recent characterisation of several strains, the phylum Armatimonadetes (formerly known as 'candidate division OP10') was a dominant and globally-distributed lineage within this 'uncultured majority'. Here we report the first Armatimonadetes genome from the thermophile Chthonomonas calidirosea T49(T) and its role as a saccharide scavenger in a geothermal steam-affected soil environment.
