Survivin is an inhibitor of apoptosis, and expressed in a large number of cancers. As Survivin expression is very low in normal tissues, it assumes significance as a prominent target for tumor diagnosis, prognosis and developing anti-cancer therapies. Purpose: Statins are used primarily in patients with cardiovascular disease. More recently, they have demonstrated benefit in oncology patients. In vitro models have shown decreased rectal tumor cell viability in cells receiving chemoradiation and statin therapy.
