Quantum materials governed by emergent topological fermions have become a cornerstone of physics. By contrast, there are few materials whose electromagnetic response is dominated by emergent Weyl fermions.

Endometrial cancer with para-aortic lymph node metastasis following medroxyprogesterone acetate therapy: A case report.

Medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA) is a promising fertility-sparing treatment for early stage endometrial cancer; however, it has a high recurrence rate and is inferior to surgery. Although the site of recurrence is mostly the endometrium, we here report a case of metastatic recurrence to the para-aortic lymph node with endometrial recurrence despite a careful follow-up. A 31-year-old woman was diagnosed with grade 1 endometrioid carcinoma, stage IA without myometrial invasion.

Longitudinal evaluation of cotton wool spot following rapid glycemic improvement using wide-field multimodal imaging.

Purpose: To report a case of a diabetic patient undergoing rapid glycemic improvement characterized by the development and resolution of cotton wool spot (CWS), with detailed structural and vascular assessment using wide-field multimodal imaging, including wide-field color fundus photography and wide-field optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).

Observations: A 47-year-old man with poorly controlled Type 2 diabetes mellitus developed CWS in his right eye 3 months after initiating insulin therapy, which coincided with a significant reduction in HbA1c levels. Wide-field color fundus photography and wide-field OCTA were performed before, during, and after CWS appeared.

(Objective) This study aimed at evaluating the efficacy and safety of upfront docetaxel (DTX) treatment and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in male patients with high-volume metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (HV-mCSPC). (Methods) This retrospective study was conducted using the medical records of 30 patients treated for HV-mCSPC by using upfront DTX treatment along with ADT at Atsugi City Hospital between December 2015 and December 2022. The patient characteristics, demographics, oncological outcomes, adverse events, and sequential therapy were evaluated.

Previous studies have investigated genetic and environmentally induced variation in resource utility and their ecological implications. However, few studies have explored variability (non-genetic, stochastic variation) as a factor contributing to variation in resource utility.

TFE3-rearranged perivascular epithelioid cell tumors of the head and neck with rare fusion partners: clues to the differential diagnosis between benign and malignant tumors.

Background: Perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas) rarely appear in the head and neck region. This case report describes two transcription factor E3 (TFE3)-rearranged PEComa cases, consisting of one in the orbit and one in the nasal cavity.

Case Presentation: Both cases demonstrated sheet-like or focal nested architecture and comprised epithelioid cells with abundant clear to eosinophilic cytoplasm and vascular stroma.

Aortic valve repair with sinus plication for a regurgitant bicuspid aortic valve: a case report.

Background: Repair of the regurgitant bicuspid aortic valve is an attractive alternative to valve replacement. Although good long-term outcomes have been reported, postoperative aortic stenosis remains a major late cause of repair failure in bicuspid aortic valves. Sinus plication is effective for creating a more symmetrical commissural angle, leading to a decrease in the mean transvalvular pressure gradient.

Triple mosaic variants of PURA in a patient with multiple congenital anomalies.

In monogenic diseases, double mosaic variants of the same gene have rarely been identified. Here, we report the case of triple mosaic variants in PURA, a gene responsible for a neurodevelopmental syndrome (OMIM# 616158). Whole-exome sequencing identified three somatic PURA variants in our case with a similar neurodevelopmental syndrome: NM_005859.

Functional MRI (fMRI) is an important tool for investigating functional networks. However, the widely used fMRI with T2*-weighted imaging in rodents has the problem of signal lack in the lateral ventral area of forebrain including the amygdala, which is essential for not only emotion but also noxious pain. Here, we scouted the zero-echo time (ZTE) sequence, which is robust to magnetic susceptibility and motion-derived artifacts, to image activation in the whole brain including the amygdala following the noxious stimulation to the hind paw.

Counterregulatory roles of GLI2 and GLI3 in osteogenic differentiation via Gli1 expression.

The GLI1/GLI2/GLI3 transcription factors mediate Hedgehog (Hh) signaling, which is crucial for bone development. During intramembranous ossification, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are directly differentiated into osteoblasts. Under basal and Hh pathway-stimulated conditions, primary cilia play essential roles in proteolytic processing of GLI3 to its repressor form (GLI3R), and in activation of GLI2.

Safety and efficacy of the initial application of vacuum-induced intrauterine tamponade for the management of postpartum hemorrhage.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of vacuum-induced intrauterine balloon tamponade (vIBT) using the modified Bakri system in a clinical setting.

Materials And Methods: This single-center observational study included women who had undergone vIBT for primary postpartum hemorrhage (PPH). Vacuum induction at 60 kPa in the uterus was continued for 1 h with 50-100 ml saline, and the balloon was promptly removed after the protocol was completed.

Technical notes for a method of eyebrow reconstruction by retroauricular scalp graft: problems and countermeasures.

Purpose: To describe a technique using retroauricular scalp graft for eyebrow reconstruction, along with problems encountered and countermeasures in treatment.

Methods: We present a patient with eyebrow loss following resection of a malignant schwannoma. We initially covered the defect from the upper eyelid to the eyebrow area with artificial dermis for hemostasis and to increase the granulation of the graft bed.

Incidence of severe illness in pediatric influenza outpatients treated with baloxavir or neuraminidase inhibitors.

Introduction: A single oral dose of baloxavir marboxil, a cap-dependent endonuclease inhibitor, is approved for patients with influenza A or B infection; however, real-world evidence is limited. We evaluated the effectiveness of baloxavir vs neuraminidase inhibitors in reducing the incidence of severe illness in influenza outpatients aged 5-11 years.

Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we analyzed individual-level data from patients treated with these antivirals, using a large, Japanese health insurance claims database (JMDC).

Purpose: To define the anatomical variance between orbital floor and medial orbital wall blowout fractures, and its change with age.

Methods: This was a retrospective, observational study analyzing data from 557 patients with isolated blowout fractures of the orbital floor or medial orbital wall. Axial and quasi-sagittal CT images were analyzed to compare radiologic data on orbital wall morphology between fracture site groups and among age groups.

Association between combined use of epidural analgesia and oxytocin administration during labor and offspring outcomes: a narrative review and proposal.

Studies have suggested that the administration of epidural analgesia (Epi) and oxytocin (OT) during labor affects offspring outcomes. However, the effects of their combined use remain unclear. This article aimed to review the outcomes of offspring exposed to Epi and OT, identify research gaps, and discuss future research directions.

A rare case of intrathoracic Gauzoma.

Background: Gauzoma is a foreign body reactive granuloma which is an extremely rare complication of thoracic surgery. We describe a case of a Gauzoma in which the gauzes were removed by mini-thoracotomy as a less invasive procedure, discovered incidentally after 35 years of follow-up.

Case Presentation: A 51-year-old man was referred to our department for hyperhidrosis treatment, and imaging studies and biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of Gauzoma.

It contained 111 unique genes, including 77 protein-coding genes, 30 transfer RNA genes, and 4 ribosomal RNA genes.

Lattice-guided growth of dense arrays of aligned transition metal dichalcogenide nanoribbons with high catalytic reactivity.

Transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) exhibit unique properties and potential applications when reduced to one-dimensional (1D) nanoribbons (NRs), owing to quantum confinement and high edge densities. However, effective growth methods for self-aligned TMD NRs are still lacking. We demonstrate a versatile approach for lattice-guided growth of dense, aligned MoS NR arrays via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on anisotropic sapphire substrates, without tailored surface steps.

First-in-Human Trial of Photodynamic Therapy for Spinal Cord Malignant Astrocytoma: Study Protocol.

Our extensive basic research on photodynamic therapy (PDT) application in models of intracranial malignant astrocytoma led to its clinical application for intracranial malignant astrocytoma in Japan. Having considered the safety and effectiveness of this pathology, we initiate a first-in-human clinical study of PDT for spinal cord malignant astrocytoma. This study has an open-label, single-arm design.

L-arginine in patients with spinocerebellar ataxia type 6: a multicentre, randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled, phase 2 trial.

Background: Therapeutic advancements for the polyglutamine diseases, particularly spinocerebellar degeneration, are eagerly awaited. We evaluated the safety, tolerability, and therapeutic effects of L-arginine, which inhibits the conformational change and aggregation of polyglutamine proteins, in patients with spinocerebellar ataxia type 6 (SCA6).

Methods: A multicenter, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase 2 trial (clinical trial ID: AJA030-002, registration number: jRCT2031200135) was performed on 40 genetically confirmed SCA6 patients enrolled between September 1, 2020, and September 30, 2021.

To support this ability, neural systems must represent both the value and identity of predicted rewards, and these representations must be updated when they change.

This report describes a 27-year-old Japanese woman presenting with left chest wall pain due to palpable and visible sclerosing superficial thrombophlebitis.
