Study Design: Retrospective cohort study.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to compare the impact of anterior cervical decompression and fusion (ACDF) versus posterior cervical decompression and fusion (PCDF) for the treatment of acute traumatic central cord syndrome (CCS) on hospital episodes of care in terms of (1) cost, (2) length of hospital stay, and (3) discharge destination.
Summary Of Background Data: Acute traumatic CCS is the most common form of spinal cord injury in the United States.
Previous studies have shown a correlation between resting heart rate (HR) measured by wearable devices and serum free thyroxine concentration in patients with thyroid dysfunction. We have developed a machine learning (ML)-assisted system that uses HR data collected from wearable devices to predict the occurrence of thyrotoxicosis in patients. HR monitoring data were collected using a wearable device for a period of 4 months in 175 patients with thyroid dysfunction.

This analysis evaluates acquired resistance mechanisms to second-line osimertinib (n = 78) in patients with EGFR T790M advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) from AURA3 (NCT02151981), a randomized phase 3 study comparing osimertinib with chemotherapy. Plasma samples collected at baseline and disease progression/treatment discontinuation are analyzed using next-generation sequencing.

Here, we describe characteristics and outcomes of patients who received ibrutinib treatment for ≥5 years in RESONATE-2. Patients aged ≥65 years with previously untreated CLL/SLL, without del(17p), were randomly assigned 1:1 to once-daily ibrutinib 420 mg until disease progression/unacceptable toxicity (n = 136) or chlorambucil 0.

This study aimed to determine whether renal function based on eGFR affects mortality risk in patients with ischemic stroke within 6 months following reperfusion therapy.
Methods: This prospective registry-based cohort study included 2266 patients who received reperfusion therapy between January 2000 and September 2019 and were registered in the SECRET (Selection Criteria in Endovascular Thrombectomy and Thrombolytic Therapy) study or the Yonsei Stroke Cohort.
Nutrient acquisition systems are often crucial for pathogen growth and survival during infection, and represent attractive therapeutic targets. Here, we study the protein machinery required for heme uptake in the opportunistic pathogen Acinetobacter baumannii. We show that the hemO locus, which includes a gene encoding the heme-degrading enzyme, is required for high-affinity heme acquisition from hemoglobin and serum albumin.

However, adequate treatment guidelines are not available for these patients. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between cancer and the outcomes of reperfusion therapy in patients with stroke.

In this large multicenter retrospective study, overall survival (OS) in MF patients treated with allogeneic HCT (551 patients) and without HCT (non-HCT) (1377 patients) was analyzed with Cox proportional hazards model. Survival analysis stratified by the Dynamic International Prognostic Scoring System (DIPSS) revealed that the first year of treatment arm assignment, due to upfront risk of transplant-related mortality (TRM), HCT was associated with inferior OS compared with non-HCT (non-HCT vs HCT: DIPSS intermediate 1 [Int-1]: hazard ratio [HR] = 0.

This cross-sectional, multicenter observational study prospectively collected demographic and clinical questionnaire data from 224 consecutive patients with CH. We assessed headache impact using the six-item Headache Impact Test (HIT-6) and evaluated the factors associated with the impact of CH.

Methods- This study included a retrospective cohort to develop a computed tomography marker of thrombus for predicting nonrecanalization after intravenous thrombolysis and a prospective multicenter cohort for validation of this marker. The volume and density of thrombus were measured semiautomatically using 3-dimensional software on a baseline thin-section noncontrast computed tomography (1 or 1.

Methods: The IRIS-FFR registry (Interventional Cardiology Research In-cooperation Society Fractional Flow Reserve) prospectively enrolled 5846 patients with ≥1coronary lesion with FFR measurement. Revascularization was deferred in 6468 lesions and performed in 2165 lesions after FFR assessment.
We report on the photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance and stability of Cu(In,Ga)Se (CIGS)-based photocathodes for photocatalytic hydrogen evolution from water. Various functional overlayers, such as CdS, TiO, ZnSnO, and a combination of the aforementioned, were applied on the CIGS to improve the performance and stability. We identified that the insertion of TiO overlayer on p-CIGS/n-buffer layers significantly improves the PEC performance.

We sought to assess the clinical impact of pharmacoinvasive strategy compared with PPCI in real-world patients with ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction.
Methods And Results: We used the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry to identify ST-segment-elevation myocardial infarction patients receiving either pharmacoinvasive strategy defined as fibrinolysis followed by percutaneous coronary intervention (rescue/urgent or routine elective; n=708) or PPCI (n=8878).
Purpose To quantitatively determine the limit of detection of marrow stromal cells (MSC) after cardiac cell therapy (CCT) in swine by using clinical positron emission tomography (PET) reporter gene imaging and magnetic resonance (MR) imaging with cell prelabeling. Materials and Methods Animal studies were approved by the institutional administrative panel on laboratory animal care. Seven swine received 23 intracardiac cell injections that contained control MSC and cell mixtures of MSC expressing a multimodality triple fusion (TF) reporter gene (MSC-TF) and bearing superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (NP) (MSC-TF-NP) or NP alone.

Materials and Methods Animal studies were approved by the Institutional Administrative Panel on Laboratory Animal Care. Mice (n = 19) that had experienced MI were injected with bone marrow-derived MSC that expressed a multimodality triple fusion (TF) reporter gene.

However, the role of IGF-1R in age-related cardiac remodeling is only partially understood. We therefore sought to determine whether the deletion of the IGF-1R in cardiomyocytes might delay the development of aging-associated myocardial pathologies by examining 2-year-old male cardiomyocyte-specific IGF-1R knockout (CIGF1RKO) mice.

Three-dimensional quantitative structure-activity relationship (3D-QSAR) modeling, comparative molecular field analysis (CoMFA), and comparative molecular similarity indices analysis (CoMSIA) of polyhydroxylated N-benzylbenzamide derivatives containing an adamantyl moiety were performed to understand the mechanism of action and structure-activity relationship of these compounds. Contour map analysis indicated that steric contributions of the adamantyl moiety and electrostatic contributions of the hydroxyl group at the 3-position are important in the activity. Activities of the training set and test sets predicted by CoMFA fit well with actual activities, demonstrating that CoMFA, along with the best calculated q(2) value, has the best predictive ability.
