Prognostic Nutritional Index as a Prognostic Factor for Very Early-Stage Hepatocellular Carcinoma.

Introduction: Field factors play more important roles in predicting the outcomes of patients compared with tumor factors in early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the prognostic ability of noninvasive serum marker scores for hepatic fibrosis and liver functional reserve on very early-stage HCC is still not yet determined. We aimed to investigate the performance of these serum marker scores in predicting the prognoses of patients with very early-stage HCC.

Hepatocellular Carcinoma: Nomograms Based on the Albumin-Bilirubin Grade to Assess the Outcomes of Radiofrequency Ablation.

Purpose To construct a nomogram with the albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) grade to assess the long-term outcomes of patients with early-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after radiofrequency ablation (RFA). Materials and Methods This retrospective study was approved by the institutional review board, and informed consent was waived. We studied 622 treatment-naïve patients with HCC according to the Milan criteria who subsequently underwent RFA from 2002 to 2013.

The Impact of Spironolactone on the Severity of Portal-Systemic Collaterals and Hepatic Encephalopathy in Cirrhotic Rats.

Liver cirrhosis and portal hypertension are accompanied by portal-systemic collaterals formation and lethal complications. Angiogenesis participates in the development of collaterals. Spironolactone is an aldosterone receptor antagonist used to control fluid overload in cirrhotic patients although recent studies suggest that it also inhibits angiogenesis.
