A new quantitative 3D gap area measurement of fracture displacement of intra-articular distal radius fractures: Reliability and clinical applicability.

Introduction: Gap and step-off measurements are generally used in the surgical decision-making process of distal radius fractures. Unfortunately, there is no consensus on treatment choice as these measurements are prone to inter- and intraobserver variability. In this study, we aim to introduce a new 3D fracture quantification method and compare it to conventional fracture analysis.

Maximum longevity and juvenile mortality in zoo-housed mangabeys.

Little is known about the biology of grey-cheeked and black crested mangabeys (Lophocebus albigena and Lophocebus aterrimus, respectively). As these primates face threats in the wild, well-monitored zoo-housed populations with up to date registries are becoming increasingly valuable to acquire species knowledge and to support conservation efforts. We used international studbooks to extract demographic and genetic information on 519 mangabeys to investigate how life history and parent-related variables influence maximum longevity and juvenile mortality.

Physiology labs during a pandemic: What did we learn?

This article captures a collective reflection on the successes and challenges we experienced when teaching physiology laboratories online during the COVID-19 pandemic. Physiology instructors from six institutions discussed their own efforts to redesign meaningful physiology laboratories that could be taught remotely, as the nation scrambled to respond to the sudden shift out of the classroom. Despite the complexity of this task, clear themes emerged as our courses transitioned to an online format in spring 2020 and were solidified in the fall of 2020.

[A painful periapical radiopacity in the lower jaw].

A periapical radiopacity is frequently encountered by chance on a conventional periapical or panoramic x-ray. However, local pain and/or swelling in the area of a radiopacity is seldom seen. Here, we report on 2 cases of patients referred to the oral and maxillofacial surgeon with a painful periapical radiopacity in the lower jaw.
