The pharmacokinetics of a novel praziquantel preparation (Distocide) were investigated in Sudanese patients with hepatosplenic schistosomiasis and in healthy volunteers, and compared with those of Biltricide. The results of the first study indicated greater (P less than 0.05) plasma concentrations of Biltricide at 1.

The effects of both bolus injection and constant infusion of various levels of norepinephrine (NE) on the activity of single-carotid chemoreceptor nerve fibers was studied in pentobarbital-anaesthetized rabbits under normoxic and hypoxic conditions. All animals were paralyzed and artificially ventilated. The dominant effect of NE was to excite carotid body chemoreceptor fibers in a dose-dependent fashion.

Isolated control of pressure in the carotid sinus was exercised bilaterally by means of pump-driven autoperfusion in anaesthetized heparinized cats breathing 100% O2. In cats with vagus nerves intact, a rise of intrasinus pressure resulted in a non-adapting fall in arterial blood pressure and a short-lasting depression in tidal volume and frequency of breathing that adapted fully in the steady state. Vagotomy increased the steady-state gain of the intrasinus pressure-vasodepressor relationship and resulted sometimes in a measurable sustained inhibition of breathing, following its initial adaptation, at the upper levels of intrasinus pressure tested.

1. The effect of beta-adrenergic and dopaminergic agonists and antagonists on the chemoreceptor response to graded hypoxia and hypercapnia was tested in nineteen cats and ten rabbits anaesthetized either with chloralose-urethane or pentobarbitone sodium, paralysed with pancuronium bromide and artificially ventilated.2.
