Optimization of the collective Thomson scattering diagnostic for the GDT open magnetic trap.

The collective Thomson scattering of high-power millimeter-wave radiation on plasma density fluctuations (CTS) is widely used for diagnosing the velocity distribution function of energetic ions in fusion plasma. In this paper, we discuss a non-standard scheme of CTS measurements, which exploits strong refraction of probing and scattered microwave beams when reflecting from the cut-off layer in dense plasma. The scheme may be realized with the existing CTS diagnostic system at the Gas-Dynamic Trap (GDT) facility, a large open magnetic trap operating at Budker Institute (Novosibirsk, Russia).

[New approaches to the treatment of pathospermia].

The study included 75 patients with various forms of pathospermia due to chronic inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract and after surgeries on the organs of the reproductive system (varicocelectomy). The mean age was 34.5 +/- 5.

Various indications for a modified Atkins diet in intractable childhood epilepsy.

Purpose: We reviewed retrospectively our experiences with children with intractable epilepsy who were indicated for a modified Atkins diet (MAD).

Methods: Twenty children (8 female, 12 male) who were aged 2-17 years with intractable epilepsy and tried the MAD between September 2008 and December 2010 were enrolled. Outcome measures included seizure frequency, adverse reactions and tolerability of the diet.

[Occupational assessment of computer placement in school areas].

The study included measurements of electromagnetic radiation emitted by MACINTOSH PC placed in public schools, functional state examination of schoolchildren sitting in rows in front of PCs. Electromagnetic radiation emitted by PCs appeared to harm higher nervous activity of the schoolchildren. With consideration of the studies conducted the recommendation is not to set workplaces in rows.

[A hygienic assessment of the work of students on Macintosh computers].

Various kinds of works of 6-11th-form schoolchildren on Macintosh computers were physiologically and hygienically assessed at the lesson of information science and computer engineering (ISCE), as well as typing. The fatigue of a visual analyzer was due to the time of looking through the data available on the display; the adverse changes of the higher nervous activity depends on the complexity of educational materials and the intensity of work on a computer. Three-hour studies in ISCE should be excluded from the time able of lessons as they do not meet hygienic requirements.
