A convenient design strategy opens access to neutral open-shell mixed-valence species the redox transformation of charged stable precursors, , the spiro-fused borate anions. We have implemented this strategy for the synthesis of the first neutral mixed-valence diradical: two neutral mixed-valence radical fragments were assembled a twisted biphenyl bridge. The diradical is a crystalline solid obtained in almost quantitative yield by using a facile synthetic procedure.

A new type of neutral mixed-valence system was synthesized using a facile one-pot procedure. The spiro-conjugated framework is additionally "fastened" with a biphenyl bridge, which does not directly participate in spin delocalization but makes the molecule stable and influences the reorganization energy and the energy barrier of the intramolecular electron transfer. The in-depth experimental and quantum-chemical study allowed determining the radicals as the Class II Robin-Day-mixed-valence systems.

Article Synopsis
  • A cyclopropanated derivative of trifluoromethylated fullerene shows reversible switching behavior via excited state electron transfer or negative charging.
  • The switching involves transitioning between a connected 62-electron π-system and separate 28- and 32-electron conjugated caps by opening or closing the cyclopropanated bond.
  • This sensitivity to small changes in a large fullerene molecule highlights its potential for use in organic electronic devices, particularly as electron acceptor materials.

Article Synopsis
  • A study of heterochronic parabionts (young and old rats sharing blood) found that the old immune system did not rejuvenate, while the young immune system aged prematurely.
  • Various hormones and factors in the blood showed no significant changes after the blood exchange, suggesting that forced aging might not affect all bodily systems equally.
  • The experiment revealed that the lifespan of young parabionts decreased, while the old ones only showed a slight, non-significant increase, indicating that components in old blood could contribute to aging in younger organisms.

This research aims to analyse the applications of IoT in agriculture and to compare the most widely used IoT platforms. The problem of determining the most appropriate IoT system depends on many factors, often expressed by incomplete and uncertain estimates. In order to find a feasible decision, this study develops a multi-criteria framework for IoT solution selection in a fuzzy environment.
