Impact of Ball Milling on the Hydrogen Evolution Performance of CuSnGeS Photocatalytic Particles Synthesized via a Flux Method.

Ball milling has been shown empirically to produce fine photocatalytic particles from large bulky particles but to drastically reduce the photocatalytic activity of such material during water splitting due to mechanical damage to the photocatalyst surfaces. If the damaged photocatalyst surfaces could be removed or reconstructed, the reduced particle sizes resulting from milling would be expected to provide enhanced photocatalytic activity. In the present study, fine particles of crystalline CuSnGeS (CTGS), which is responsive to long wavelength light up to the near-infrared region, were synthesized by a flux method and subsequent ball milling.

We have tried to develop the guidance system for farmers to cultivate using various phenological indices. As the sensing part of this system, we deployed a new Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). This system uses the 920 MHz radio wave based on the Wireless Smart Utility Network that enables long-range wireless communication.

Microwave heating is widely used to accelerate organic reactions and enhance the activity of enzymes. However, the detailed molecular mechanism for the effect of microwave on chemical reactions is not yet fully understood. To investigate the effects of microwave heating on organic compounds, we have developed an in situ microwave irradiation NMR spectroscopy.

The functions of Tyr420 and Leu607 were analyzed by constructing various site-directed mutants. The mutation at position 420 into Ala and Gly gave bicyclic alpha-and gamma-polypodatetraene in significant amounts, but with a trace amount of tricyclic malabaricatriene. The kinetic data for and the product distribution of the Y420F mutant indicate that the major function of Tyr420 is to stabilize the 6/6-fused bicyclic cation.
