Unlabelled: For men with prostate cancer (PCa) within the European Randomized Study of Screening for Prostate Cancer (ERSPC), the cause of death is determined by a Cause of Death Committee (CODC) that evaluates all medical records using a fixed algorithm. The aim of this study was to compare the classification of PCa-specific mortality (PCSM) between the CODC and Statistics Netherlands. We calculated the sensitivity (PCSM agreement divided by total PCSM deaths according to the CODC) and specificity (agreement for other-cause mortality [OCM] divided by total OCM deaths according to the CODC) using the last 21-yr follow-up data from ERSPC Rotterdam.

Comparing Chest Tube Thoracostomy in East Tennessee Trauma Centers: A Prospective Study Highlighting Differences in Urban vs Rural Locations.

Chest tube thoracostomy (CTT) is essential for lung expansion, but protocol discrepancies exist across trauma centers. This prospective study compared CTT protocols between an urban (center 1) and rural (center 2) level 1 trauma center in East Tennessee from June to August 2023. 66 trauma patients required CTT (51 from center 1 and 15 from center 2).

Many plants show strong heteroblastic changes in the shape and size of organs as they transition from juvenile to reproductive age. Most attention has been focused on heteroblastic development in leaves, but we wanted to understand heteroblastic changes in reproductive organ size. We therefore studied the progression of reproductive development in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana, and found strong reductions in the size of flowers, fruit, seed, and internodes during development.

Versatile Applications of Brewer's Spent Grain: Solid-State Fermentation and Nutritional Added Value.

Brewer's spent grain (BSG) is a major by-product in the beer-brewing process which contributes to 85% of the entire generated by-product in the brewing process. BSG is rich in proteins, and most of the malt proteins (74-78%) remain insoluble in BSG after the mashing process. Solid-state fermentation (SSF) is a promising bioprocess that enables microorganisms to survive in environments with minimal water and has shown to enhance the nutritional composition of BSG.

Carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus dynamics in China's lakes: climatic and geographic influences.

Given the differences in geomorphology, climate, hydrology, and human activities in various regions, lake chemometrics may also vary. However, the spatial distribution of lake chemistry and the factors affecting such pattern are still unclear. Here, we collected data for carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus from published literature and databases in 224 lakes and calculated the trophic status index to represent the nutrient classification state of lakes.
