Objective: This paper evaluates the accuracy of C-reactive protein (CRP), leukocyte count, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) for diagnosing tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA) and assessing the cost-effectiveness of different treatment regimens for pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), with and without TOA.

Method: A retrospective cohort study was conducted between January 1, 2003, and December 30, 2021, including women aged 13-80 years diagnosed with PID. The analysis focused on the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio of different treatment regimens.

Background: The intensive care unit environment exposes nurses to high-stress situations that potentially affect their mental and physical health. Resilience is a protective factor that can enhance the well-being of intensive care unit nurses.

Objective: To investigate the current evidence regarding resilience in intensive care unit nurses and identify factors that promote resilience.

Article Synopsis
  • Miniature energy storage devices, crucial for wearable electronics, are explored through the fabrication of flexible micro-supercapacitors (MSCs) made from laser-induced graphene using graphene oxide (GO) on polyimide film.* -
  • The study measured the areal capacitance of these MSCs with a gel electrolyte, observing a significant initial increase that stabilized after six days of testing.* -
  • The optimized MSC, using the best concentration of GO, showed a high capacitance of 10.07 mF cm and maintained 87.9% capacitance retention after 5000 charge-discharge cycles, proving its effectiveness for flexible applications.*

Introduction: Prenatal opioid exposure (POE) is a major public health consequence of the opioid epidemic. Long-term health outcomes associated with POE remain unclear, especially for children with POE without a diagnosis of neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). Here, we aimed to describe the health outcomes of children with POE and with POE and NAS compared to unexposed children during the first 7 years of life.

The soil seed bank (SSB) is one of the key mechanisms that ensure the perpetuity of forests, but how will it behave in the scenarios projected for the future climate? Faced with this main question, still little explored in seasonal tropical forests, this study evaluated the germination, ecological attributes, and functional traits of the SSB in a seasonal forest in the Atlantic Forest. Forty-eight composite samples of the SSB were collected from 12 plots, distributed across four treatments, each with 12 replicates. The samples were placed in two climate-controlled greenhouses, establishing two environments of controlled climatic conditions, both with two levels of water, as follows: Cur: current scenario without water restriction; Cur_WR: current scenario with water restriction; RCP8.
