Urinary tract infection is a common disease in childhood affecting 7,8% girls and 1,6% boys. Despite frequent reinfections, the ultimate outcome is favorable. Progressive renal damage may occur in children with obstructive uropathy, high-grade vesicoureteral reflux and those with recurrences of acute pyelonephritis.
