Article Synopsis
  • - The PROSurvival project focuses on enhancing predictions for prostate cancer recurrence-free survival by using federated machine learning to analyze whole slide images along with specific clinical data while ensuring data privacy compliance.
  • - Anonymized datasets created from image and clinical data will adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and follow principles for data accessibility and interoperability, utilizing the DICOM standard for images and a modified version of the oBDS standard for clinical data.
  • - The project faced challenges regarding clinical data anonymization and navigating various approval processes from data protection officers at different clinics, but the new German Health Data Utilization Act is anticipated to streamline future data sharing efforts.

The complexity of the cancer problem domain presents challenges not only to the medical analysis systems tasked with its analysis, but also to the users of such systems. While it is desirable to assist users in operating these medical analysis systems, prior groundwork is required before this can be achieved, such as recognising patterns in the way users create certain analyses within these systems. In this paper, we use machine learning algorithms to analyse user behaviour patterns and attempt to predict the next user interaction within the CARESS medical analysis system.

Acute heart failure (AHF) is a frequent cause for emergency consultations, leads to long hospital stays and is characterized by high mortality and rehospitalization rates, with the first months after hospitalization having the highest risk («vulnerable phase»). The clinical presentation is usually characterized by fluid accumulation. Over the last three decades, few advances have been achieved in the treatment of AHF, as most studies with diuretics or vasodilators failed to show positive effects in terms of mortality and rehospitalization rates.
