Prostate biopsy, a frequently performed procedure, is not harmless. In rare cases, life-threatening complications occur. We document a potential lethal bacterial meningitis after transrectal biopsy.

Climatic and geographic predictors of life history variation in Eastern Massasauga (Sistrurus catenatus): A range-wide synthesis.

Elucidating how life history traits vary geographically is important to understanding variation in population dynamics. Because many aspects of ectotherm life history are climate-dependent, geographic variation in climate is expected to have a large impact on population dynamics through effects on annual survival, body size, growth rate, age at first reproduction, size-fecundity relationship, and reproductive frequency. The Eastern Massasauga (Sistrurus catenatus) is a small, imperiled North American rattlesnake with a distribution centered on the Great Lakes region, where lake effects strongly influence local conditions.

Stretch due to Penile Prosthesis Reservoir Migration.

A 43-year old patient presented to the emergency department with stretch, due to impossible deflation of the penile prosthesis, 4 years after successful implant. A CT-scan showed migration of the reservoir to the left rectus abdominis muscle. Refilling of the reservoir was inhibited by muscular compression, causing stretch.

Fully automatic, microprocessor-controlled system for the production of 11CO2, 11CH3I and 11C-labeled radiopharmaceuticals.

An automated system for the production of 11C-labeled radiopharmaceuticals, using 11C-CH3I as a precursor, has been developed. The whole procedure, including irradiation, production of 11C-CH3I, synthesis of the labeled molecule and isolation of the final product is controlled by a microprocessor. Between 30 and 80 mCi of 5 different radiopharmaceuticals are produced routinely with this system.

Enzymatic synthesis of C-11 formaldehyde: concise communication.

We present an enzymatic synthesis of C-11 formaldehyde from C-11 methanol, with immobilized alcohol oxidase and catalase: a rapid, simple procedure, with a high and reproducible yield. Carbon-11 methanol is oxidized to C-11 formaldehyde by passage over a column on which the enzymes alcohol oxidase and catalase are immobilized. The catalase increases reaction velocity by recycling the oxygen, and prevents destruction of the alcohol oxidase by eliminating the excess of hydrogen peroxide.
