Purpose: This study was designed to identify the location of the lateral ligaments of the rectum and to reveal its contents.

Methods: From 18 human soft cadavers (9 males), 18 pelves were sagittally sectioned into 36 hemipelvic specimens affording good anatomic view of the lateral aspect of the rectum. All of them were dissected and mobilized by using sharp technique under direct vision by one surgeon to avoid confounding factor.

Unlabelled: Focused assessment with sonography for trauma (FAST) is used as a screening tool to detect hemoperitoneum in patients with blunt abdominal injuries. The aim of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of FAST performed by third year surgical residents.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the lengths of proximally based and distally based gluteus maximus flaps created as for anal sphincter reconstruction in soft human cadavers.

Methods: Twelve soft cadavers were used in this prospective, randomized, controlled study. In each cadaver, a proximally based flap of the gluteus maximus muscle was performed on one side and a distally based flap on the other.

To demonstrate the trend and treatment outcome of rectal cancer after the advent of adjuvant therapy, all case notes of rectal cancer patients admitted to Chulalongkorn Hospital from 1985-1994 were reviewed and cases were followed until 1996. Mean follow-up period was 685.3 days (8-3, 193 days).

A double-blind, comparative, controlled study on the effectiveness of the addition of oral diosmin (Daflon; Lab. Servier, Orléans, France) and placebo to a conservative regimen of bulk laxative in the treatment of acute symptoms of first-degree and second-degree internal hemorrhoids was undertaken in 100 patients. The diosmin and placebo groups, with 50 patients each, were comparable in age, sex, symptoms, and the severity of the underlying hemorrhoids.
