Background: Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been successfully applied in clinical settings to destroy neoplasms, but the efficacy of such a treatment is dependent on the type of neoplasm and the photosynthesizer used. Here, we perform a clinical assessment of PDT for skin metastases of pigmented melanoma using chlorin e(6).
Study Design/materials And Methods: PDT with chlorin e(6) photosensitizer was administered to 14 patients with skin metastases from melanoma (10 females, four males, mean age 49.

The paper is concerned with the results of a randomized study of combined therapy of lung cancer patients including large field radiotherapy (total irradiation of 20 Gy, daily fractionation of 4 Gy) and induced hyperglycemia (22-23 mmol/l). The use of new variants of combined therapy was shown to increase significantly the survival of patients, however therapeutic efficacy was different depending on the time of hyperglycemia: whether it was used before radiotherapy sessions or after their discontinuation.

The latter condition contributed to higher blood coagulability resulting in lung artery thromboembolism in some cases. Administration of a combination of heparin, curantil and nicotinic acid was followed by a decrease in blood coagulability, increase in anticoagulation function, decrease in platelet aggregability, activation of fibrinolysis and regression of biochemical signs of DIC syndrome thereby assuring a drop in the occurrence of thromboembolic complications.

The changes are reversible, have a functional character, that indicates the absence of a disbalance in hormonal mechanisms of carbohydrate metabolism control as well as marked disorders of the pancreas function. In order to achieve a wider range of indications for using AHG in complex schemes of the cancer treatment, it is necessary to take measures on optimization of the carbohydrate metabolism state which should be controlled by the suggested complex of laboratory tests.

The total focal dosage was 20 Gy (5 fractions during a week). In 25 patients IH was followed by irradiation and in 24 patients it followed irradiation.
