A healthy diet is at the forefront of measures to prevent type 2 diabetes. Certain vegetable and fish oils, such as pine nut oil (PNO), have been demonstrated to ameliorate the adverse metabolic effects of a high-fat diet. The present study investigates the involvement of the free fatty acid receptors 1 (FFAR1) and 4 (FFAR4) in the chronic activity of hydrolysed PNO (hPNO) on high-fat diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance.

Article Synopsis
  • This study looks at using old medicines in new ways to help people with Crohn's disease, especially those suffering from intestinal fibrosis, which is a serious problem.
  • Researchers used health records from older patients in Denmark to see which drugs might help or hurt the risk of needing surgery for intestinal issues caused by this disease.
  • They found 10 medicines that could increase the risk of surgery and 10 that might lower it, highlighting the importance of testing these drugs further to help patients avoid surgery.

GPR84 is a putative medium-chain fatty acid receptor that is implicated in regulation of inflammation and fibrogenesis. Studies have indicated that GPR84 agonists may have therapeutic potential in diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, atherosclerosis, and cancer, but there is a lack of quality tool compounds to explore this potential. The fatty acid analogue LY237 () is the most potent GPR84 agonist disclosed to date but has unfavorable physicochemical properties.

Objective: Free fatty acid receptor-1 (FFAR1) is a medium- and long-chain fatty acid sensing G protein-coupled receptor that is highly expressed in the hypothalamus. Here, we investigated the central role of FFAR1 on energy balance.

Methods: Central FFAR1 agonism and virogenic knockdown were performed in mice.

A chemoselective Pd-mediated carbonylative Negishi-type catalytic protocol for the synthesis of (hetero)aryl ketones is reported. The protocol employs the PEPPSI-IPr precatalyst and CO gas at atmospheric pressure (balloon) to foster the carbonylative coupling between diverse C(sp)-hybridized organozinc reagents and a broad range of aryl iodides, including substrates carrying aldehyde, aniline, phenol, or carboxylic acid groups, and heteroaryls.
