This multicenter prospective study investigated seasonal variation in home blood pressure (HBP) during pregnancy and its association with the frequency of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) and developed trimester-specific upper limits of HBP according to season. Low-risk women with singleton pregnancies were recruited at six university hospitals and three maternity clinics. HBP was measured by a sphygmomanometer twice daily and recorded online using a mobile application.

The proliferation of pancreatic cells is enhanced to enable an increase in -cell mass and to compensate for insulin resistance during pregnancy. To elucidate the mechanisms involved, we previously investigated islets from pregnant and nonpregnant mice by gene expression profiling and found that the expression of postsynaptic density-95/Discs large/zonula occludens-1 (PDZ)-binding kinase (Pbk), a member of the mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase family, is increased in pregnant mouse islets compared with control mouse islets. Among the pregnancy hormones, treatment with estradiol upregulated expression.

Article Synopsis
  • About 8-10% of newborns with asymptomatic congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV) infection develop sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL), prompting a study to investigate the links between CMV load, SNHL, and central nervous system (CNS) damage.
  • The study analyzed 23,368 newborns in Japan, screening for cCMV infection via urine tests and assessing hearing through automated auditory brainstem response (AABR) testing.
  • Findings indicated a low incidence of cCMV (0.257%), with a notable 22.7% of infants with SNHL also infected with cCMV; higher urinary CMV loads were linked to both SNHL and CNS damage as

Introduction: Villitis of unknown etiology (VUE) is associated with fetal growth restriction. However, the underlying mechanisms of villous injury in placentas with VUE are still largely unknown. We aimed to verify whether apoptosis-related factors are increased in VUE placentas.
