Article Synopsis
  • * The study identified a protein called SHARPIN, located on an amplified chromosome in CRC, which is overexpressed in tumor cells and linked to poor patient prognosis due to its influence on lymphatic invasion.
  • * SHARPIN affects the progression of CRC by regulating the proteins MDM2 and p53, leading to changes in cell cycle and apoptosis, thus presenting SHARPIN as a potential new target for therapeutic interventions in colorectal cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates cell-cell interactions in colorectal cancer (CRC) to understand how adenomas progress to sporadic CRC, aiming to improve patient survival rates.
  • By using spatial transcriptomics on early and advanced CRC cases, the researchers identified key interactions between cancer cells and regulatory T cells (Tregs) that may lead to immune suppression in the tumor microenvironment.
  • Findings highlight midkine (MDK) as a critical signaling molecule involved in these interactions and indicate that higher MDK/SDC4 levels are linked to poorer survival outcomes in CRC patients, suggesting a potential target for early diagnosis and treatment.

Bromodomain and extraterminal domain (BET) family proteins are epigenetic master regulators of gene expression via recognition of acetylated histones and recruitment of transcription factors and co-activators to chromatin. Hence, BET family proteins have emerged as promising therapeutic targets in cancer. In this study, we examined the functional role of bromodomain containing 3 (BRD3), a BET family protein, in colorectal cancer (CRC).

Here, we present the case of a 42-year-old female who developed acute pancreatitis due to dexamethasone during adjuvant chemotherapy for early triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). The patient received partial mastectomy and sentinel lymph node biopsy for early TNBC (cT1N0M0, cStage I) of the left breast. Dose-dense doxorubicin plus cyclophosphamide (ddAC) was administered as the adjuvant-chemotherapy; however, epigastralgia appeared on the fifth day of the first administration.

Article Synopsis
  • Nodular regenerative hyperplasia (NRH) is a rare liver disease that appears as small lumps in the liver and is linked to various health problems but can be hard to diagnose correctly.
  • A 49-year-old man found tumors in his liver during a check-up, but he didn't have any symptoms; doctors first thought it was a type of liver cancer.
  • After surgery to remove the tumors, tests showed they were actually non-cancerous lumps that looked like NRH, making it a complicated case for doctors.
