Motor Imagery (MI) based brain-computer interface (BCI) systems are used for regaining the motor functions of neurophysiologically affected persons. But the performance of MI tasks is degraded due to the presence of redundant EEG channels. Hence, a novel ensemble regulated neighborhood component analysis (ERNCA) method provides a perfect identification of neural region that stimulate motor movements.

Article Synopsis
  • A motor imagery (MI) based brain-computer interface (BCI) helps paralyzed individuals perform tasks without muscles, with a focus on improving classification accuracy through relevant feature selection using extreme gradient Bayesian optimization (XGBO).
  • The study extracts various MI features and employs XGBO for feature selection alongside a random forest classifier, achieving higher accuracy and speed by minimizing the number of features needed.
  • Results show significant improvements, with mean accuracies of 94.44% and 88.72% for two EEG datasets, outperforming existing methods and reducing computational time while increasing classification accuracy.

It has been reported that iron oxide nanoparticles have various biomedical applications, including cancer diagnosis and treatment. Iron oxide nanoparticles were known to exert cytotoxicity against MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines and in this present study, we have investigated for their apoptosis-inducing potential in the same cell line. The flow cytometry analysis of the MCF-7 breast cancer cell lines treated with functionalized iron oxide nanoparticles showed an increased percentage of cells in terms of viable, early, and late apoptosis.
