Myringoplasty for the anterior perforation: experience with the Kerr flap.

Surgical closure of the anteriorly located tympanic membrane perforation can present a problem. The lack of anterior support for the graft frequently leads to graft failure if an underlay method is used whereas anterior blunting is a complication of onlay techniques in this situation. The experience with the Kerr flap, an underlay graft fashioned to include a tab of fascia which is placed laterally under the annulus and the anterior meatal skin, is presented.

Use of hearing aids by patients with closed mastoid cavity.

Twenty-five patients who had undergone a closed-cavity tympanomastoidectomy in our Unit and wore a hearing aid in the operated ear were reviewed, and information was recorded on the use of the aid, and the patients' impression about it. The information obtained was analysed and compared with similar data from 39 hearing aid users of similar age with no history of ear surgery. Raised sodium, potassium, and urea concentrations in spermatic venous blood: an additional causative factor in the testicular dysfunction of varicocele?

The concentrations of Na, K, Cl, HCO3, LA, and urea, with calculation of the AG, as indirect indices of electrolyte balance and metabolic conditions prevailing in testicular environment, were determined in PB and SVB of 24 men with varicocele and 15 men with inguinal hernia. Significantly higher concentrations of Na, K, and urea were found in SVB as compared with PB values (P less than 0.001 for all) of patients with varicocele, but not in control subjects.
