Purpose: To evaluate and compare visual performance of two enhanced monofocal intraocular lenses (IOLs), XY1-EM (Vivinex Impress, Hoya) and DIB00V (TECNIS Eyhance, Johnson & Johnson) with that of a conventional monofocal IOL, XY-1 (Vivinex, Hoya).

Setting: Kamiamakusa General Hospital, Kumamoto, Japan.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 130 eyes from 75 patients, including 46 eyes (27 patients) implanted with XY1-EM, 47 eyes (26 patients) with DIB00V, and 37 eyes (22 patients) with XY-1.

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a well-established cause of recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL). If coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection or vaccination induces antiphospholipid antibody (aPL) production, it may lead to miscarriage in subsequent pregnancies. We investigated the association between COVID-19 infection and vaccination history with aPL positivity in women with RPL.

The biotinylated probes based on anticancer saponin OSW-1 with varied linker lengths were synthesized and their cell growth inhibitory activity and affinity pulldown efficiency were evaluated. All probes demonstrated comparable cytotoxicity to the parent natural product, highlighting that the linker moiety had a minimal impact on cell uptake or target engagement. In contrast, when evaluated against the known target proteins, OSBP and ORP4, the biotinylated probe 3 with PEG5 linker enabled most effective enrichment of target proteins in the affinity pulldown assay, suggesting that the cytotoxicity and pulldown efficiency did not correlate among the probes studied.

Purpose: This cross-sectional study examined the gut microbiota species associated with skeletal muscle mass reduction in a community-based sample of older Japanese adults.

Methods: The study included 744 participants (320 men and 424 women) aged 65-89 years (mean age: 73 years) with no history of treatment for colorectal, chronic kidney, or liver diseases. Bioelectrical impedance analysis was performed to estimate the appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM) of each participant.

Objectives: The suppression of antimicrobial-resistant bacteria (ARB) is an important issue worldwide. In recent years, the presence of various ARB in the oral cavity has been reported, but the details remain unclear. Therefore, we aimed to isolate ARB from the oral cavity and investigate the factors affecting ARB colonization.
