Article Synopsis
  • - This study investigates how extracellular vesicles (EVs) change in size and protein content due to diet-induced obesity and the effects of time-restricted feeding (TRF) on these changes.
  • - Using mice on a high-fat diet, the researchers found that TRF reversed shifts in EV populations, improving their size profile and protein composition that had been altered by obesity.
  • - The results suggest that EVs play a crucial role in metabolic and inflammatory responses to diet, with TRF influencing specific biological pathways linked to metabolism and inflammation.

Time-restricted feeding (TRF) is known to be an effective strategy for weight loss and metabolic health. TRF's effect on metabolism is complex and likely acts on various pathways within multiple tissues. Adipose tissue plays a key role in systemic homeostasis of glucose and lipid metabolism.

Acetylene (CH) is a molecule rarely found in nature, with very few known natural sources, but acetylenotrophic microorganisms can use acetylene as their primary carbon and energy source. As of 2018 there were 15 known strains of aerobic and anaerobic acetylenotrophs; however, we hypothesize there may yet be unrecognized diversity of acetylenotrophs in nature. This study expands the known diversity of acetylenotrophs by isolating the aerobic acetylenotroph, sp.

Apart from a well-known role in the innate immune system, lipocalin 2 (Lcn2) has been recently characterized as a critical regulator of thermogenesis and lipid metabolism. However, the physiological mechanism through which Lcn2 regulates cellular metabolism and thermogenesis in adipocytes remains unknown. We found that Lcn2 expression and secretion are significantly upregulated by arachidonic acid (AA) and mTORC1 inhibition in differentiated inguinal adipocytes.

We report the genome of Rhodococcus opacus strain MoAcy1 (DSM 44186), an aerobic soil isolate capable of using acetylene as its primary carbon and energy source (acetylenotrophy). The genome is composed of a single circular chromosome of ∼8 Mbp and two closed plasmids, with a G+C content of 67.3%.
