Estimating the health and macroeconomic burdens of tuberculosis in India, 2021-2040: A fully integrated modelling study.

Background: Tuberculosis (TB) imposes a substantial health and economic burden on many populations and countries, but lack of funding has significantly contributed to several countries falling short of global TB reduction targets. Furthermore, existing assessments of the economic impact of TB do not capture the impacts on productivity and economic growth or the pathways by which epidemiology, demography, and the economy interact. Evidence is needed to answer how investment in treatment and control measures may help to mitigate the twin Indian health and macroeconomic burdens of TB over the coming decades.

The potential impact of new tuberculosis vaccines on the burden of tuberculosis in people with HIV in South Africa.

Background: People with HIV (PWH) are at an increased risk of tuberculosis (TB). New TB vaccines may help reduce this burden. New TB vaccine candidates are well tolerated and immunogenic in PWH.

Estimating the Potential Public Health Value of BCG Revaccination.

An upcoming trial may provide further evidence that adolescent/adult-targeted BCG revaccination prevents sustained Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, but its public health value depends on its impact on overall tuberculosis morbidity and mortality, which will remain unknown. Using previously calibrated models for India and South Africa, we simulated BCG revaccination assuming 45% prevention-of-infection efficacy, and we evaluated scenarios varying additional prevention-of-disease efficacy between +50% (reducing risk) and -50% (increasing risk). Given the assumed prevention-of-infection efficacy and range in prevention-of-disease efficacy, BCG revaccination may have a positive health impact and be cost-effective.

The associations of oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy, sociodemographic characteristics, and clinical characteristics with time to fall in older adults with colorectal cancer.

Our purpose was to investigate the associations between falls and oxaliplatin-induced peripheral neuropathy (OIPN), sociodemographic characteristics, and clinical characteristics of older patients with colorectal cancer. The study population consisted of older adults diagnosed with colorectal cancer whose data were obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database combined with Medicare claims. We defined OIPN using specific (OIPN 1) and broader (OIPN 2) definitions of OIPN, based on diagnosis codes.
