Glutathione (GSH) plays a vital role in the regulation of intracellular functions which alterations in physiological glutathione levels are associated to various diseases. Molecular bioimaging is a sensitive method for GSH detection, but challenges persist in the development of fluorescent probes, mainly concerning long-term tracking of intracellular GSH concentration because of aggregation of molecular probes and their washout in cells. Engineered nanomaterials have shown great promise for increasing the disease diagnosis accuracy.

This work demonstrates that the alternative synthetic logic, where the central main group element is introduced last, can be applicable to a number of PEP pincer complexes (E=B, Al, Si, P) derived from phosphinophenols and phosphinopyrroles. This approach obviates the need to isolate well-behaved propincer precursors, and instead relies on the formation of phosphine-metal adducts first, whose nature determines the stoichiometry of the needed main group reagent to complete the synthesis.

The reduced amino acid alphabets are an example of these classifications, which, when built from physicochemical, structural and quantum characteristics of the amino acids, allow it to simplify the representation of the sequences, being useful in the modelling, design and understanding of proteins. So, an objective selection of amino acids properties is important, due classes formed in a reduced alphabet depend on the descriptors used for classification.

Preinstallation of an iodo-substituent at the alkyne prior to iodo-cyclization opens access to di-iodinated heterocyclic precursors for the preparation of unsymmetrical heterocycle-fused enediynes. This general approach was used to prepare 2,3-diiodobenzothiophene, 2,3-diiodoindole, and 2,3-diiodobenzofuran, a useful family of substrates for systematic studies of the role of heteroatoms on the regioselectivity of cross-coupling reactions.
