Today, the distribution and consumption of canned products have become widespread due to the convenience of using processed fish products. This study aims to evaluate elements of toxicological concern and essential elements (Cd, Al, Cu, Cr, Mn, Fe, Pb, Ni, and Zn), the fatty acid composition, and the fat-soluble vitamin and antioxidant pigment contents of various canned fish products purchased on the Bulgarian market. The estimated weekly intake and human health benefit-risk ratio based on metal elements and n-3 LC-PUFA contents in canned fish products were assessed.

Introduction: Essential tremor (ET) is characterised by postural and intentional tremor typically affecting the upper limbs, which can negatively impact functionality and quality of life. Magnetic Resonance-guided Focused Ultrasound (MRgFUS) is a novel and promising non-invasive treatment for ET which offers instantaneous results.

Methods: Using interpretative phenomenological analysis we explored the experience of undergoing MRgFUS in six ET patients as well as their experiences pre- and post-procedure.

A new method of synthesising nanoparticle-functionalised nanostructured materials via Aerosol Assisted Chemical Vapour Deposition (AACVD) has been developed. Co-deposition of Au nanoparticles with WO(3) nanoneedles has been used to deposit a sensing layer directly onto gas sensor substrates providing devices with a six-fold increase in response to low concentrations of a test analyte (ethanol).

Here we provide evidence for a dependence between the increased production of reactive oxygen species and the activation of Ty1 retrotransposition. We have found that the strong activator of Ty1 mobility, methylmethane sulphonate, can not induce Ty1 retrotransposition in cells with compromised mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (rho(-); sco1Delta), which is the major source for production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The quantitative estimation of superoxide anions in living cells showed that rho(+) cells exposed to methylmethane sulphonate increase Ty1 retrotransposition and superoxide levels.

Ty1 is a retrotransposon of the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae whose transposition at new locations in the host genome is activated by stress conditions, such as exposure to UV light, X-rays, nitrogen starvation. In this communication, we supply evidence that cooling for 2 h at +4 degrees C followed by freezing for 1 h at -10 degrees C and 16 h at -20 degrees C also increased Ty1 transposition. The mobility of Ty1 was induced by cooling at slow rates (3 degrees C/min) and the accumulation of trehalose inside cells or the cooling at high rates (100 degrees C/min) inhibited significantly the induction of the transposition.
