Purpose: To evaluate the development of astigmatism after cataract extraction depending on the kind of incision

Material And Methods: Astigmatism was examined in 107 eyes of 92 patients, who underwent cataract extraction, mostly with IOL's implantation. In 52 eyes phacoemulsification with tunnel incision, measuring 5 mm in 27 and 8 mm in 25, was performed. In the control group of 55 eyes incision with scleral flap measured 2/5 of the corneal circumference.

The anterior chamber tamponade with Healon and 2.5% solution of hydroxymethyl-cellulose has been applied in 10 patients, aged 9-65 years, during antiglaucomatous surgery connected with interscleral dislocation of iris. The tamponade prevented the rupture of blood vessels of iris.

Forty one patients aged 29 to 82 years were subjected to cataract extraction in ambulatory conditions. Fifty eyes were operated, among them 33 with implantation of a posterior chamber artificial lens. In cases of a lack of opacities in the cortex layers their structure was loosened before the operation by a YAG laser.

The dependence of hydrodynamics on the topography of trabeculectomy performed simultaneously with cataract extraction was checked in 35 eyes with cataract and glaucoma. The eye was opened by a three-surface incision with a broad scleral flap. The specimen were examined in a microscope.

The authors performed 41 operations of pterygium with transplantation of a free epithelial flap from the bulbar conjunctiva in order to cover the defect after the removal of the pathological tissue. The results of 35 operations had been controlled in the period of one to ten years. In 25 cases the operation was the first intervention, in 9 cases the second or third in a recurrent pterygium treated by other methods.
