Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is the most prevalent breast cancer subtype. Its prognosis is poor because there are no effective treatment targets. Despite several attempts, the molecular pathways of TNBC remain unknown, posing a significant clinical barrier in the search for viable targets.

Article Synopsis
  • Glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1RAs), like semaglutide, are commonly used to manage type 2 diabetes by helping regulate blood sugar, reduce weight, and protect the heart.
  • A 74-year-old man with multiple health issues developed severe pancreatitis after using semaglutide for four years, particularly following a recent dose increase.
  • Despite the absence of known risk factors for pancreatitis, his condition rapidly worsened, leading to complications such as shock, renal failure, respiratory distress, and ultimately, death, suggesting a potential connection between prolonged GLP-1RA use and acute pancreatitis.

Methane (CH) emissions are a factor in climate change; in addition, CH production may affect reclamation of fluid fine tailings (FFT) in tailings ponds, and end-pit lakes (EPLs). In laboratory cultures, we investigated the effect of crystalline iron mineral (magnetite) on CH production from the biodegradation of hydrocarbons added to FFT collected from methanogenically more and less active sites in a demonstration EPL. Magnetite enhanced CH production from both sites, having a greater effect in more active FFT, where it increased the CH production rate as much as 48% (from 6.
