Article Synopsis
  • Distant recurrence of non-muscle invasive bladder cancer is a rare and challenging condition to detect during follow-up.
  • A 73-year-old woman with a history of bladder cancer developed tumors in her axilla, lungs, lymph nodes, and adrenal glands, initially misdiagnosed as metastatic breast cancer.
  • The diagnosis was corrected to metastatic urothelial carcinoma after a biopsy, emphasizing the need to consider bladder cancer as a potential source of distant metastases even when there's no sign of recurrence in the urinary tract.

Article Synopsis
  • - Choriocarcinoma syndrome with lung metastases often leads to severe respiratory issues and a poor prognosis, but extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) can help maintain oxygen levels until chemotherapy starts working.
  • - A case involved a 35-year-old man with a testicular tumor and lung metastases who required ECMO due to significant breathing difficulties; his condition improved after chemotherapy reduced the lung tumors.
  • - Although ECMO was successful temporarily, the patient ultimately succumbed to brain metastases four months later, highlighting the dire outcomes associated with advanced choriocarcinoma syndrome.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers tested 1,000 patients and found that those with lower chewing and motor skills had significantly higher rates of serious health issues over a median follow-up of about 36.6 months.
  • * Results showed a clear inverse relationship: better masticatory and tongue-lip function corresponded with lower incidences of adverse health events, such as death and diseases, highlighting the importance of oral motor skills in overall health for these patients.

Article Synopsis
  • * A high-throughput proteome analysis identified 4947 proteins in Brassica, with 370 showing significant changes in abundance linked to essential processes like energy metabolism, photosynthesis, and heavy metal detoxification.
  • * Key proteins involved in Cd detoxification, such as glutathione S-transferase and ATP sulfurylase, suggest potential pathways for improving Cd tolerance, which could aid breeders in developing safer oilseed crops to enhance global food security.

The separation of P, K, and Mg from surplus activated sludge (SAS) was investigated using existing sludge treatment facilities and the thickened primary sludge (TPS). The addition of the TPS to the SAS storage tank accelerated the anaerobic release of the three elements from SAS with maximum efficiencies of about 60%. The efficiency of P release showed a significant correlation with the oxidation-reduction potential.
