Objectives: Wide variations in antibiotic use in very preterm infants have been reported across centres despite similar rates of infection. We describe 10 year trends in use of antibiotics and regional variations among very preterm infants in Norway.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to determine if high workloads in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) impact short-term respiratory outcomes for extremely premature infants born before 26 weeks of gestation.
  • Data was gathered from the Norwegian Neonatal Network and medical records, analyzing patient volume and unit acuity over a five-year period.
  • Results showed no correlation between NICU workloads and mechanical ventilation duration or extubation success, suggesting resilience in the care provided in these units.
