Structural and metabolic changes in nephrocytes during peritonitis were studied on early autopsy material. Unspecific morphological changes in the kidneys were presented by circulatory disturbances and damage to the tubular epithelium. The changes in dehydrogenase activity in nephrocytes of the proximal and distal tubules depended on the cause of peritonitis.

Functional and biochemical parameters, changes in renal morphology were studied in 122 dogs at different time of lower limb ischemia and revascularization. Two groups of dogs were identified varying in the time of ischemia and revascularization: (early--3 and 6 h and late--9 and 12 h), characterized by temporary oligoanuria and acute renal failure. Morphological appearance of the kidneys was described with due consideration of the pathology and compensatory rearrangement of glomerular epytheliocytes metabolism.

The results of biochemical, radioisotope and morphological investigations of dog kidneys in experimental acute occlusion of hind limb arteries during ischemia and in postischemic periods are reviewed. Morphological and functional changes in the kidneys occur in ischemia. Blood flow recovery in the extremities aggravates these changes leading in 12-hour ischemia to acute renal failure.
