Advancing Diabetes Quality Measurement in the Era of Continuous Glucose Monitoring.

Purpose: The purpose of this research is to develop a set of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM)-related measure concepts to be tested in a health care system. Existing measures assessing the quality of diabetes care do not include modern approaches to diabetes management, such as CGM. Continuous glucose monitors rival traditional methods of measuring diabetes management by providing real-time, longitudinal data and demonstrating glucose variability over time.

Developing a quality measure to assess use of antibiotic medications for respiratory conditions.

Objective: Antibiotics are essential medications for treating life-threatening infections. However, incorrect prescribing can lead to adverse events and contribute to antibiotic resistance. We sought to develop a utilization quality measure that could be used by health insurance plans to track overall prescribing for respiratory conditions.

Prolonged cyclin-dependent kinase inhibition results in septin perturbations during return to growth and mitosis.

We investigated how coordinate polarization, budding, and anaphase during a unique developmental program called return to growth (RTG) in which cells in meiosis return to mitosis upon nutrient shift. Cells reentering mitosis from prophase I deviate from the normal cell cycle by budding in G2 instead of G1. We found that cells do not maintain the bipolar budding pattern, a characteristic of diploid cells.

Effects of fostamatinib (R788), an oral spleen tyrosine kinase inhibitor, on health-related quality of life in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis: analyses of patient-reported outcomes from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

Objective: To assess the influence of fostamatinib on patient-reported outcomes (PRO) in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis and an inadequate response to methotrexate (MTX).

Methods: Patients taking background MTX (N = 457) were enrolled in a phase II clinical trial (NCT00665925) and randomized equally to placebo, fostamatinib 100 mg twice daily (bid), or fostamatinib 150 mg once daily (qd) for 24 weeks. Self-administered PRO measures included pain, patient's global assessment (PtGA) of disease activity, physical function, health-related quality of life (HRQOL), and fatigue.
