Phosphate mines produce large quantities of waste rock. These waste rocks are mixed and managed on the surface as large unrestored piles, which makes them difficult to rehabilitate. They primarily comprise carbonates, clays, marls, and cherts (flints).

We hypothesized that cows with distinct core body temperatures (CBTs) would exhibit disparate behaviors associated with different degrees of heat generation or dissipation. The primary objective was to investigate behavioral differences of dry Holstein cows ( = 50) classified as high-temperature (HT) or low-temperature (LT), based on median CBT during the summer months using visual observations and accelerometer technology.

This study investigated a possible synergy between butyrate and forskolin (a natural labdane diterpene) in enhancing innate host defense, barrier function, disease resistance, growth performance, and meat quality of broilers.
Methods: The expressions of representative genes involved in host defense (AvBD9 and AvBD10), barrier function (MUC2, CLDN1, and TJP1), and inflammation (IL-1β) were measured in chicken HD11 macrophages in response to butyrate and forskolin in the presence or absence of bacterial lipopolysaccharides (LPS).
Peroxyacetic acid (PAA) is a widely used antimicrobial during poultry processing that requires to be shipped in a concentrated solution, stored under hazardous conditions and diluted for use. On-site PAA generation using nonhazardous ingredients can help eliminate transportation and storage issues at the processing plant and reduce the risk of occupational hazards. The objective of the proposed research was to 1) evaluate the efficacy of on-site generated PAA in reducing Salmonella and Campylobacter populations compared to the commercially available PAA stock solutions and 2) to perform color measurements to evaluate any deviations between treatments.
