Background: Hand surgery is commonly required for conditions like Dupuytren's disease, carpal tunnel syndrome, and carpometacarpal osteoarthritis. Hand experts agree that patient education and managing expectations can optimise surgical outcomes. With an aging population, and rising rates of diabetes and obesity, a significant increase in elective hand surgeries is anticipated over the next decade.

The relative importance of host phylogeny and dietary convergence in shaping the bacterial communities hosted by several Sonoran Desert Drosophila species.

Complex eukaryotes vary greatly in the mode and extent that their evolutionary histories have been shaped by the microbial communities that they host. A general understanding of the evolutionary consequences of host-microbe symbioses requires that we understand the relative importance of host phylogenetic divergence and other ecological processes in shaping variation in host-associated microbial communities. To contribute to this understanding, we described the bacterial communities hosted by several Drosophila species native to the Sonoran Desert of North America.

Despite multiple recent advances in systemic therapy for metastatic breast cancer, cases which display suboptimal response to guideline-driven treatment are frequently seen in the clinic. Effective options for such patients are limited, particularly in later line of therapy, and selection of optimal treatment options is essentially empirical and based largely on considerations of previous regimens received. Comprehensive cancer profiling includes detection of genetic alterations in tissue and circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA), immunohistochemistry (IHC) from re-biopsied metastatic disease, circulating tumor cells (CTCs), gene expression analysis and pharmacogenomics.

Observed Structured Teaching Experiences (OSTEs) in a Students as Teachers Course.

Introduction: Teaching is an important competency in graduate medical education (GME). Many residency programs have implemented curricula to develop residents' teaching skills and observed structured teaching experiences (OSTEs) have been used to assess these skills. There is an increasing focus on building teaching skills earlier in the medical education continuum, however, there is limited literature on assessing medical students' teaching skills.

A Randomized Study to Determine the Effect of a Culturally Focused Video Intervention on Improving HPV Vaccine Intentions in a Christian Population in the United States.

Safe and effective vaccines have been developed that protect against high-risk strains of HPV, but uptake is relatively low. We previously identified factors such as sexual attitudes and HPV knowledge that impact the intent of Christian parents to vaccinate their children against HPV. We hypothesized that culturally specific interventions in the form of short videos would be effective at improving HPV vaccine intentions and attitudes.
